19 Year Old Dies After Denial From Transplant List For Trace THC

Could've been edibles. Especially considering how bad of shape his lungs were in. Makes edibles seem even more likely

It's not 100% clear, but they allude to smoking at some point in the article. I thought maybe he had used medical marijuana to alleviate pain, but it sounds like he and a buddy smoked after a thanksgiving dinner.

...and 458 deaths due to liver failure - as a result of overdoses. At least that's the way I read it.

Is that not how I'm presenting it? Sure the death is due to liver failure, but heroin death is due to heart failure. Either way it killed 458.

Idk what you're trying to say?

It clearly says 100k overdoses and 458 deaths

I think he's saying that nobody is dying while taking Tylenol as directed. The deaths are a result of overuse and overdose.

The contract banned "illicit drugs", therefore the legality of marijuana is relevant. He was denied a transplant because of the legality of marijuana

It also said tobacco and alcohol. Those are legal and would still negate the contract. This issue has nothing to do with the legality of marijuana.

Ok, read it. Here is how to understand it. Not all 100 k overdoses lead to death but 458 did. And all those deaths were caused from overdoses. Got it now?

There's countless other drugs that are legal that were not included.

And he could have taken those without being taken off the list. But he took one that was against the contract. So that's not even a valid point about other drugs

Which is exactly what I've been saying from the beginning.

Tylenol kills 400-500 people a year. It's something I warn my football players about. They think it's harmless and many will try to use such things daily, which leads to liver failure.

We don't even know when he signed the contract, so I have a hard time saying that a trace amount of a substance that stays in the fat tissue for a long time is a valid reason

The contract is signed once you are on the list and you are tested then. Trust me, I've done this for a living. You are grasping at straws. The kid got delisted because he didn't follow the rules.

So you sign the contract and are tested at the same time?

Repetitive daily use is a form of overdose. If you take a maximum dose for enough days, your liver will fail.

Overdose by definition is over the prescribed daily dose over a period of set days. As long as you are in good health and don't exceed these studied/tested parameters you will not die of liver failure.

I really don't get what is so controversial. Matching organs are in short supply so they want to give them to the best candidates. I'm sure there's a whole list of things that are prohibited that may seem inconsequential to you and me, but make a difference medically.

You are correct. It's only an issue here because it was marijuana and a hot topic. It all comes down to personal responsibility which is HUGE for post transplant life. If you can't follow the rules pre transplant then no way are you getting an organ that you will possibly destroy killing it, yourself, and then other recipient that died because they didn't get the organ

No, that's not how this works. Overdose is taking enough to harm you. That's why heroin users can overdose despite there being no prescribed daily amount.

Bottom line of this image is what I'm talking about. The article link is here: https://www.google.com/amp/articles.../03/26/amp/acetaminophen-overdose.aspx#amph=1

And in those cases how many where dehydrated or had co morbidity? Yes, Tylenol can lead to liver failure but it's most likely in cases of over dose or misuse. It's not killing people who use it for headaches once a week.
