Actually, Lacewell had already been the coordinator of the great Oklahoma defenses of the '70s. So, I'm sure Jimmy Johnson had a pretty good idea of what he was getting. Johnson had worked at OU and knew Lacewell.(jakez4ut @ May 11 said:the story on those guys is still being written...so when we look at those guys resumes, just remember, that they had to start somewhere, and looking back on Lacewell and Tubberville now, 20 somthing years later, it's a lot easier to see the "family tree" and take it for what it really was.
I doubt back in the day, anyone at Miami would be all excited about a kid from Ark St joining the coaching staff, even under Larry Lacewell, who at the time, probably didn't have the same reuptation he does today for his football knowledge...
hindsight is always 20/20....
and i'm not saying i'm thrilled about our new additions...just that we don't know yet, they may turn out great, they may fall flat on their face...
kind of like how Cut had been a coord at UT in the 90's thru one of TN's better offensive era's in it's history, and I'm sure CPF has a pretty good idea of what he's getting...?(hatvol96 @ May 11 said:Actually, Lacewell had already been the coordinator of the great Oklahoma defenses of the '70s. Comparing OU's defenses in the '70s to UT's offenses in the '90s is like comparing The Beatles to the Backstreet Boys. I don't remember Cut's offenses being the lynchpin to a 28 game unbeaten streak and back to back national titles.(jakez4ut @ May 11 said:kind of like how Cut had been a coord at UT in the 90's thru one of TN's better offensive era's in it's history, and I'm sure CPF has a pretty good idea of what he's getting...?
i wasn't comparing the two units...just the rationale behind the "faith" in the hires the coordnator makes, based on the HC's knowledge of that coordnator, and his past performance.(hatvol96 @ May 11 said:Comparing OU's defenses in the '70s to UT's offenses in the '90s is like comparing The Beatles to the Backstreet Boys. So, Boise State is now one of the elite teams in College Football. They've won a bunch of games. In Majors last 4 years, he won the SEC title twice. Fulmer, in his first four years won it 0 times. If you're more concerned about Hall of Fame Bowl Victories, etc., so be it. I'll take championships. I realize it's been so long since Fulmer won one that his minions may have forgotten what one of those is.(VolBeef88 @ May 11 said:Here you go hate.
CJM last 4 years =34 wins
CPF first 4 years =39 wins
It took CJM 9 years for first SEC title
It took CPF 6 years for first SEC title
In 15 years he only had 2 seasons with 10 or more wins
In 13 years CPF has had 8 seasons with 10 or more wins
So my math is correct. 39 is more than 34.
i remember....(hatvol96 @ May 11 said:So, Boise State is now one of the elite teams in College Football. They've won a bunch of games. In Majors last 4 years, he won the SEC title twice. Blah, blah, rulebook, crybaby, blah, blah. Who's laughing at OU now, smart guy? Looks like their program survived all those awful National Championships Barry & Co. won. We haven't lost our prestige? We're at best the fourth or fifth best program in the SEC and the only stat we lead the nation in is arrests. Given your love for the "purity" of college sports, it would seem Carson Newman or Maryville College would be more your speed.(OldVol @ May 11 said:You also don't remember us being on probation, losing our prestige, and being the laughingstock of football for being the cheatingest regime in
college football history, second only to SMU.
Don't forget that little tidbit of fact.

I love it, a Fulmer defender talking about prison. Where's Dwayne Goodrich now? How does Leonard Little spend his offseason? Where did Jam Lewis reside last summer?(OldVol @ May 11 said:Yeah, but prisons make me nervous. Not that I've been, but I've been by one out on Whitesbridge road.![]()
