The whole "the receivers suck" argument is getting pretty tired. VY needs to get his act together, there is no reason he shouldn't be able to throw an accurate pass, because the talent is there. His biggest problem right now is his horrendous footwork, if he would learn how to set his feet when he throws he would immediately become a better quarterback.
I mean, there is a reason that the receivers look better when Kerry Collins is in.
The receivers look better when Collins is in true, but the downside is that if collins gets the team inside the 20, he can't score a touchdown. Check his stats...also worth noting is that the 8 fg game is the game he started. He's a better qb now on the rest of the field, but you can't only score field goals all season and win games.
I do agree that vince needs work as a qb, it's obvious. But the truth of the matter is both he and the wrs are bad. When every nfl correspondent says that none of your wide receivers would start on any other team, make it no higher than 3rd on a depth chart, and that your best wr is Roydell and he'd only make it to 2nd at best on some teams, then there's an issue....especially when mel freakin kiper says it and he's right.
If you watch the wrs / TEs, there were
alot of dropped passes, and dropped touchdowns last year. Best example, look at the 8 dropped passes in the denver game, better yet look at brandon jones beating his man on the first play and dropping the ball...right through his hands, and before half when roydell also beat his man and let a td go right through his hands. Scaife dropped a few in the endzone too in later games and we had to kick fgs. All in all, there's somewhere from 5-8 (at most 7 really) more tds that were lost b/c the wrs would not hold on to the ball, the
most fundamental part of catching the ball...believe me, the fans notice too. In the jets game, vince scrambled, hit a wide open roydell williams, who immediately dropped it...fell right out of his hands...almost like he just let go , and even the titans fans booed.
Honestly though, I blame the front office more on this b/c they've already established that they could care less about the passing game :cray:, they just want running game and defense, which I don't feel works in this league anymore. They want one of these guys to suddenly get great like mason, but it doesn't happen too often. They won't roll the dice and spend the money or picks on it due to their past experiences and it will cost them later on.
Now again, I know vince has to improve, and
I am by no means saying he's a good qb at this point....it takes both qb and wr to complete a pass, no qb is an island, but its not a 50/50 balance. A great wr can make a qb immensely better. However, vince just getting better won't help if you're playing with 3rd string guys.
