2008 Titans

The whole "the receivers suck" argument is getting pretty tired. VY needs to get his act together, there is no reason he shouldn't be able to throw an accurate pass, because the talent is there. His biggest problem right now is his horrendous footwork, if he would learn how to set his feet when he throws he would immediately become a better quarterback.

I mean, there is a reason that the receivers look better when Kerry Collins is in.

Agreed, VY does not look to have improved. In camp his footwork was better but so far in game situations it has regressed.

This is fisher-ball though -you run the ball, have good defense and dont turn the ball over - based on that last mcnair, george, wycheck era we won't draft one. That plus every receiver we've drafted high or brought in through free agency has gotten hurt and busted (carl pickens, yancy thigpen, tyrone calico, david givens). I would not be surprised if they didn't take any high wrs in the next 2 drafts.

Shame, b/c good wrs make qbs better (& bad wrs make them worse), but good qbs can't keep bad wrs from dropping passes
If he had the accuracy to put the ball where it was supposed to be it would sure help a lot.

They really didn't look better when he was in so I'm not sure what game you were watching. I saw two good plays by KC and that's all. VY was throwing off his backfoot half the time because of the pressure and he had to scramble. I think at one point Collins completion % was worse than VY's... not sure if that stayed that way though. The receivers were not breaking off their routes and coming on a hot route when the QB was pressured (which was a lot friday), for both Young AND Collins.

And the talent is not there at receiver. Granted, I still think VY is just plain bad at this point - but the receivers are even worse.

I'm new to this forum but I see the Titans winning around 12 games!

I'm a true fan so I truly believe that!!!

VY's doen't look sharp at all this pre season but he seems to be using his legs a lil more! I would rate him a D so far this pre season!

Are running game looks really strong so far this pre season as does a D I would grade them both a B+

The receivers look better when Collins is in true, but the downside is that if collins gets the team inside the 20, he can't score a touchdown. Check his stats...also worth noting is that the 8 fg game is the game he started. He's a better qb now on the rest of the field, but you can't only score field goals all season and win games.

I do agree that vince needs work as a qb, it's obvious. But the truth of the matter is both he and the wrs are bad. When every nfl correspondent says that none of your wide receivers would start on any other team, make it no higher than 3rd on a depth chart, and that your best wr is Roydell and he'd only make it to 2nd at best on some teams, then there's an issue....especially when mel freakin kiper says it and he's right.

If you watch the wrs / TEs, there were alot of dropped passes, and dropped touchdowns last year. Best example, look at the 8 dropped passes in the denver game, better yet look at brandon jones beating his man on the first play and dropping the ball...right through his hands, and before half when roydell also beat his man and let a td go right through his hands. Scaife dropped a few in the endzone too in later games and we had to kick fgs. All in all, there's somewhere from 5-8 (at most 7 really) more tds that were lost b/c the wrs would not hold on to the ball, the most fundamental part of catching the ball...believe me, the fans notice too. In the jets game, vince scrambled, hit a wide open roydell williams, who immediately dropped it...fell right out of his hands...almost like he just let go , and even the titans fans booed.

Honestly though, I blame the front office more on this b/c they've already established that they could care less about the passing game :cray:, they just want running game and defense, which I don't feel works in this league anymore. They want one of these guys to suddenly get great like mason, but it doesn't happen too often. They won't roll the dice and spend the money or picks on it due to their past experiences and it will cost them later on.

Now again, I know vince has to improve, and I am by no means saying he's a good qb at this point....it takes both qb and wr to complete a pass, no qb is an island, but its not a 50/50 balance. A great wr can make a qb immensely better. However, vince just getting better won't help if you're playing with 3rd string guys.

People lets just see what happens this up coming season ok! I believe VY will come through! Don't forget the one fact about him he's a winner and he has proved that over and over again! I think MH has somethings planed out for VY this season it's going to be fun! I tell you what I see VY in CJ hooking up a lot this season!

If VY does not show improvement this year (and I mean significant) he will have almost certainly been cemented as a bust. The more I think about it I'm convinced that the tools may be there but the football IQ is not. He does not seem to have the timing and touch most QB's do.

Don't give up on him through! VY will come through just wait you'll see this up coming season!!!

VY is too much of an egomaniac to take coaching.

If Alge Crumpler can't make him a better QB, he needs to invest in some receiving gloves because that's where he needs to be.

I'll be one of the last people to defend vince young.. he's overrated, and just plain and simple not very good.. I got SO annoyed with people saying "all he does is win!" YEAHHHH unless his defense can't win it for him...

But i will say this.. his receivers are not even close to good... but part of that may be him stinking it up

I know a lot of people are hating on Vince and trust me I understand why I really do, but if you all remember they did the same thing about steve mcnair his first few years in the NFL! They said they should move him to a TE or FB cause all he does is run the ball! I'm not going to give up on him! I was at the UT and Kansas game his JR year and after that I told myself I would never count him out!

I think we have some key tools to help him out this year! Remember McNair had a hard to getting used to the NFL but he got a solid TE like Frank Wy he had a go to man! I think Vince will get that outta Alge!

:realmad:

You know, I forgot about that. McNair did take what...i think 6 or 7 years before he became a good qb. Yeah, I had one of those friends who said he should be playing FB and O'Donnell starting, yet when he got good jumped as fast as he could on the bandwagon

However, I think this shows more than anything that the titans are willing to have patience with their qbs, i.e. they're not going to cut or move him or anything like that for a good while longer...

speaking of mcnair:
ESPN - McNair visits Titans, doesn't have animosity over parting - NFL

No not at all....

And it was around McNairs 4th to 5th season when he started coming around. You gotta remember McNair didn't even start until his 3rd season!

McNair didnt start until his 3rd season (3), drafted in 1995. he finished 3rd in the mvp race in 2002, generally having started to pick up as a qb between 2001-2002. Thus 6-7 years into his career (7th year being when everyone would have stopped calling him a fb)

yeah he didnt start all of those, but there's a big difference in 4th year of his career and 4 years starting but 6 years total, more learning of the game etc

Jeff Fisher is an idiot as a coach.
Titans havent ONCE showed that WR is important to the team and it also shows that when you have a QB who really sucks, Fisher says that everything is ok.

While I'm not a Titans fan, this might be one of, if not the dumbest, things posted on this site.

Tennessee is fine, they have a strong defense and a young offense thats going to make plays this year!
