2008 Titans

So let me get this straight. I think what you're saying is that it was just the playcalling, and that a 50% completion rate for 2.83 yards per attempt isn't that bad?

with only 6 passing plays...yeah

All i was saying was only 6 passing plays were called in the one quarter he played(well, 7 if you include the one he ran for 35 yards on). There's not really enough bulk in that stat to criticize unless you really stretch it(unless your argument is just "i hate the titans" :)...or "they're trying to hide him," as merril hoge says ) If he did this over an entire 4 quarters, that'd be one thing, but he didn't; he only played one.
Now, if you wait till he misses more passes or makes some mistakes and then bring up a stat like this...that's different

Also, the point of the bold portion, was that his receivers are absolutely terrible...like on most other teams I know they'd be third at best, so I don't expect any yards after catch at all like you can with any 1/2-way decent receiver

Still way too early to call Johnson a beast. He will contribute and add a new dimension but beast is too premature. Ealy will be fine they will bring him along slow. Once Haynseworth gets into football shape the D-line will be outstanding. Young's footwork looks much better and you can see the difference in his throws. White is in good shape and looks to have improved some, he and Johnson will bring us a true "thunder and lightning" duo. I will wait until after our next game against the Raiders to assess our offense, the Rams are a horrible defensive team.

My definition of beast may be different from yours.. I just mean his speed in general and how he made two DBs with good angles look silly on his TD run.

Not beast as in LT beast.

I think we can wait until the first real game to assess the offense. I agree with you on Johnson. Worst mistake is to start labeling guys and exaggerating over the first preseason game. It is what it is....a scrimmage. The best teams don't give a rat's azz whether they win or lose these games. Just look at Indy's and NE's preseason records the past few years. Then look at their reg season records. I rarely put any stock in preseason performance as a gauge for the reg season.

I dont put much weight into them either... but when someone blitzes through the secondary that fast + all the hype from camp and the coaches raving.. you know he'll make an impact this year.

I agree but IMO the single biggest factor in Johnson's success will be Vince Young. If Young can put together a passing game it will hold the linebackers for an extra second or two and allow him to hit the holes our linemen make and set him up to make a few of them miss.

Really? I can't tell you how many times I've seen a player get huge hype from the coaches, sports writers, etc. during training camp and then look fantastic during the pre-season games just to end up warming the bench and turning into a nobody. It happens all the time. I'm not just trying to pick on the guy because he's a Titan either. This really does happen all the time.

I don't expect anything more than average out of anyone on the offense. Unless Young starts to revert back to rookie mode and run around for his life I don't feel like he'll be all that productive. He tried to prove everyone wrong last season by saying he was a pocket QB, but he needs to realize that he'll never be one.

When someone is called the biggest threat and most dynamic weapon the Titans have ever had by the coaches... I think his chances to make a decent impact are far greater than they are to bust. It wasn't just high praise.. it was the highest you can get... he's not like Chris Henry.. who was just a combine freak but had hardly any experience.. this guy was a beast @ ECU too.

I'm not saying he's going to come out and rush for 1,000 yards... he won't even get half the carries so that's impossible.. I'm saying he's going to make a few ESPN highlights this season with his speed and vision.

Fair enough. That's a pretty low bar. Michael Vick had a lot of ESPN highlights and he totally sucked.

Wow - freakin O-line can't do crap.. VY is scrambling and throwing off his backfoot the whole time.. and he's probably done for the night... not to mention VY continues to do stupid things.
