I imagine pretty highly but I don't care. He's a monster.

just asking because i know nothing about him, he's plays in another state. Is he a player that can make an immediate impact or take a year or two to develop? I realize it's pretty early to tell.

The kid is huge. But not many true freshmen defensive linemen make an immediate impact any where.

If he keeps growing yes he can play quickly here.

Yeah - I'm an Ooltewah grad. so I see him in person a lot when I still get to go back to the games. The guy is just really ripped at the point so he won't take as long to be SEC ready as most DEs.

Are they looking at his teammate John Long, justin? He's a junior - kicker - has been kicking 50+ yard FGs since his freshman year.. although he said he wants to go to Ohio State I know that's not going to end up happening.

I have been hearing a lot about sophomore running back/defensive back/linebacker Devrin Young from Knoxville Bearden High School. Has anybody seen him play and is he as good as I keep hearing?

He is listed as 5-8, 150 lbs, but people say he plays a lot better and is as elusive as anybody they have ever seen with the ball in his hands. Through seven games this season he has 837 yards on 120 carries (7.0 yards per carry) and eight touchdowns rushing. Defensively he has 15 tackles and three interceptions.

I know he still has two more years of high school to go, but does anybody think he has a chance to be a big time college player with some maturation the next two years of high school?

I agree with you... I have heard he is fast, I don't know his specific 40 time, but I do know he has broken several long runs this season. I really don't know much about him, I just have heard a lot of good things and was wondering if anybody actually knew how good he is and if he has potential to play in college.

I saw a Farragut/Bearden replay, and I thought he was a very tough back, had speed (vs the white boys), and definitely was the best athlete on the field, but again, he's tiny (probably closer to 5'6"). He could grow some and be a DI guy, overwise I think he's more like a Chris Shiverdecker from Alcoa, who's now at Carson-Newman. As for the hype, I think a lot of that is in that he plays for Bearden. The sophmore twins from A-E are better. And I've heard Alcoa has a couple super sophmores.

1st lets talk about your post
Farragut is the #1 team in the state in 5A. Farragut did not kick the ball to him at all and he had 120 rushing on them
As for the hype, well he's earned it. He is the only frosh in Bearden history to qualify for the state track meet. He runs the 100M, 200M with his best times being 10.7 100 and 22.47 200...he has legit 4.4-4.5 speed
The twins you speak of from AE arent sophs..they are SR's chase and chance jones. Alcoa has Taharin Tyson and Darryl Warren, they both can play

Devrin is already getting D-1 interest from UT, Mizzou, Ill, Colorado, Vandy, Oregon(he loves them) among several others so he will definitely play D-1 ball. He just turned 15 in Feb/March so he is very young and very good. Possibly the best player in the knoxville area as a soph. Teams have started keying on him now and BHS has used their other weapons in 8 games Young has
1400 all purpose yards 11 tds (all kinds of ways receiving, punt returns, kickoff, 871 yards 8 on the ground) he is averaging like 50 yards per kickoff return and 16 yards or so per punt return when they kick to him...
20tackles 3 FF 2 fumble recoveries 3 INT's

He will be KIL soph of year. The thing that makes him great is his vision and speed, many of his long runs have been plays were he cuts back across the grain. He is suprisingly storng for a player his size as often one person cannot tackle him. He is great in space.

He projects to be 5'9 180 LBS or so by his SR year as he is still growing.......he is the most electrifying player in E. TN regardless of class....very explosive...

Coaches and former UT players have told me..he is more explosive than any player UT has right now....he is the real deal.....and you will see him playing on Saturdays

he also was named MVP of the Schumann Underclassmen camp in ATL in spring..and recently named one of the top 50 soph in the south...

here is the link to Schuman's camp

and what does height have to do with anything....your not asking him to play PF....

here is his SPARQ info..

How much did someone pay you to write this btw? And I got a serious LOL out of the bolded statement.

Projects to grow 3-4 inches? How so? I was nearly full grown at around 5'11 my by freshman year in high school. Its rare for people to grow that late in high school unless they're basketball type height.. like someone 6'4-7' range. Typically if you're that short at that age you're probably not going to be growing a whole lot more.

I actually write for a hs sport site. TNVarsity.com. I do a weekly hs radio show on T. Basillio and I write a weekly blog for fanu.com. You can laugh all want about the statements in bold....but that is what I've been told...so that's on you man...

I keep up with players.....and I know him personally. Just because you were nearly full grown as a frosh doesnt mean that Devrin's body is like yours...right? He went to the doctor this year and they told him his growth plate is still developing. He wears a size 12 shoe already. Plus his dad is 5'9 5'10...so there is plenty of room for growth....and that is really not an issue anyway because he will have his choice of schools as a SR.....

so you think he is more explosive than Eric Berry??

I didnt make that comment..others have....you gotta ask them.....these comments were made by high school coaches who he has faced and several former vol players who have seen him play...

Actually, I dont know what to think, but i know he is very good....

I've seen him play and was very impressive, but for anyone to say he's more explosive than any UT player is asinine.

that is what they said....its not like UT has a roster full of playmakers...and the ones we have...we dont even use them correctly....you would have to agree..

he has big time playmaking ability...I'm sure of that..
