2010 Prospects

Eric Berry will be a first round draft pick, Young is not more explosive than Berry at this point plain and simple.

but why are you arguing that fact with me...its not like I have disagreed with you...I never said he was...if that is your point you are trying to make then you would have to talk to the people who said it...

I will say this...there was a scout at the BHS vs Kingsport DB game who scouted EB in hs...and he said that OTHER than EB...he was the best looking young prospect he has seen in the last 10 years or so.....Knoxville should embrace this young star because he is going places....

he will be one of the top all purpose back in the country by his SR year....there are already whispers going around that he could be the top one in his class...after the season when people start breaking down who is the best of the best....FWIW.....

So to some up you are related to Dervin Young.

no not related....I have changed his diapers though when he was young.....I know the family very well..well I guess you could say I'm like family...his mom and I are like bro/sis...

still I know alot of kids and their families just because of the nature of what I do in my spare time...

another name to remember is Caleb Blance from Webb frosh RB he has over 700 yards rushing and him and Devrin run AAU track together for Knoxville Track Club....

knoxville has several young stars ...like the kids from Alcoa, William Blount has a nice little frosh QB and Maryville has a couple of guys who will be big time as well...Vanderbilt Hembrick will rival Blance for tops as a SR in area....he doesnt get alot of touches because of Tyson and Warren at Alcoa, but he is very explosive.....

do you think your avatar is big enough?

That explains a lot.

what does that explain? That I'm all about promoting TN kids?
It would be different if the kid wasnt making plays....then I could maybe see your point...but everything I have told you is factual..even linked his SPARQ page so you can see it for yourself....It's not like I'm pumping up some kid who cant play or hasnt done anything....

My affiliation has nothing to do with a kid who has proved it on the field. He is the #2 leading rusher in the state for the 2011 class..has over 130 carries(no injuries so he is durable even at his current size)..those are the facts...not some made up argument to prove a point...

why are you taking what he has done so personally, like you are upset with it....? If your only point...to enter the discussion was to say he isnt better than EB....then I'm not disagreeing with you...but this kid is playing in the highest classification of football in TN 5A and making plays....why does that make you upset as it seems to do(I could be wrong about you being upset)

Again I promote all the Tennessee high school kids who are making plays....some just happen to make more plays than others....maybe you should check out my work on TNVarsity.com....it will give you an idea...that I'm just about promoting the TN kids in general.....not just one....but if a player stands out...they standout....

My growth plate said I was supposed to be (or could be) 6'1-6'3 when I had an x-ray on my foot due to an injury about that time. I never really got past 5'11 so I would never trust that.

Guy reminds me a lot of Brian Marshall from Ooltewah so far (probably with better stats so far though)... track star, really good football player, and a home run hitter but just too short. He is playing college ball somewhere - just not at the level he could have if he were several inches taller.

Brandon James
Jeff Demps
JJ McCleskey
Travis Stephens
Chris Leak

I could go on...my point again is..your not asking him to get a rebound.....so what does height really matter? And size has no bearing on cuurent/future production....he is small already yet still making plays against bigger guys...you cant tackle what you cant get a hold of......he uses his size to his advantage...

The guy is still apparently biased like no other with this kid. He changed his diapers. Maybe the kid will be a good prospect that can make an impact at UT but I'd rather hear it from someone not so close to the situation. Its not anything against you or him... but you have a very biased view on it all.

And comparing the kid to people like Brandon James and Jeff Demps is unfair. Stephen was also several inches taller. And I'm not sure what a 6'0-6'1 QB has to do with him.

those are some impressive numbers... I am excited to see what happens to him as he matures and the recruiting process really starts. His size is questionable, but he is only a sophomore so we'll see. Nonetheless, his stats on the field are hard to argue with, pretty incredible.

The kid is amazing.............cutting ability, field vision, and athleticism. Also, for his size, he packs a punch. This young man will be something to watch as he matures over the next few years.

Guys, what Orangeblur is saying about Mr. Young is 100% truth. He is not blowing smoke or selling hype.

I did not see Eric Berry in high school. So I can not compare the two. I would venture to say, they are very similar.

I coached Devrin for about 5 years before high school in the youth football in Knoxville. The kid is a special player. Not only does he have tallent, but is very coachable. He is like a loyal dog. He listens, does everything a coach will tell him, eager to please, a leader on the field, and helps his team-mates on and off the field.

He is very interested in Oregon, which makes me sick to my stomach. I hope and pray that UT shows interest in him. I would hate to see a hometown tallent like this be lost to the Pac-10.

I have known Devrin for around 8 or 9 years now. My son and him are also friends and team-mates at Bearden. I may be a little bias, but also know this kid very well. I know he will have know problem playing at the D1 level. He is a very mature young man and has more heart than any player, I have ever coached or seen play the game.

I know this is old, but I was an Ooltewah Grad this year.

Jaquez was the only reason to watch Ooltewah football last year, absolutely the only one. The biggest thing I can say about him is that he regularly just pushes whoever is blocking him completely backwards and rushes right by them. Regularly, as in he looks like he's just walking through the line. He's got strength.

The best play I've seen him make was at this year's Oak Ridge game. The Ooltewah Qb and running back had a miscommunication and a fumble. An Oak Ridge d-lineman picked it up and was running it back the other way with a posse. When the Oak Ridge player was at the 33ish yard line, Jaquez was at the 50. He caught the guy from behind just before the 20 yard line. No one in the Ooltewah stands cared about the fumble, because the rundown was just that beastly.

I think he's going to be a 4-Star when his rating comes out. He's definitely the best High School player I've witnessed though, he's a beast and I can't see him being lower than a 4. He wows me with one or two ridiculous plays every time I watch a game.

The only better player I've seen in the area is Gerald Riggs Jr. coming out of RBHS. Jacquez has been a lot more impressive than BJ Coleman imo and he's still got another year.

Ooltewah won tonight. The further they go in the playoffs means even more exposure, which probably means Smith's rating will continue to climb.

no, i dont wear a green. haha. but he likes me so he pulls up, sometimes. haha.

yeah, we're looking pretty good. we went 8-1 though the season. and we won against campbell county last friday in the first round. we have soddy daisy again this week.
