2010 Prospects

no, i dont wear a green. haha. but he likes me so he pulls up, sometimes. haha.

yeah, we're looking pretty good. we went 8-1 though the season. and we won against campbell county last friday in the first round. we have soddy daisy again this week.

Make sure you guys work on the slant route and never leave #7 open! I'm worried they may keep it going for the whole game this friday. They really out played us in the first half but we had 2 pick sixes.

Hard to beat a team twice and if there's one thing Sawdy will be - is mentally prepared and ready. They're not as athletic and talented (not enough soul power except 1 transfer that couldn't get the starting job anywhere else).

Congrats to Jacquez Smith on winning 5A Mr. Football for the D-line as a junior! Please come to Tennessee.

Hey Bassdude I just got a tape of the Oakland game what number is Jacquez and what position does he play?

I know he had a sack, and a fumble recovery in the game... maybe forced the fumble too which would mean 2 sacks.. not sure though.. wasn't his best game but he did okay by his normal standards.

I've seen Jacques several times this year, even before I heard he was being recruited by Tennessee.
He is the closest physically to Leonard Little that I have seen.
Fantastic athlete and a playmaker.

Ok, I aquired 3 of the game tapes. Just wanted to watch Smith and find out more about him. Here is what I saw.
Pure Athlete at DE. Doesnt use much technique but doesnt have to. Either overpowers lineman, runs around them, or stands them up. Does a good job with run stopping although doesnt shed the block as well as he could. Reminds me of Jevon Kearse on passing plays the way he rushes the QB. Quick off the ball but could become quicker with coaching. Strong hands and arms but doesnt use his legs to full potential.

Overall, he will be a high 4 star or 5 star DE his senior year. I cant remember a better DE prospect in TN in a LONG time.

Our class next year is going to be awesome. There's 7 kids in Rivals' 250 watch list for next year from Tennessee, plus a couple others with connections to TN.

Chattanooga Times Free Press | Rogers among University of Tennessee recruits staying put

Ooltewah junior defensive end Jacques Smith, one of the top-rated prospects in the South, visited the University of Georgia last weekend and met with coach Mark Richt, who invited him into the locker room after the game.

“Coach Richt is amazing, but my heart is still at Tennessee,” said Smith, who Monday became a Tennessee Mr. Football winner. “I know Coach Kiffin’s dad (Monte) is a great defensive mind. I’m excited and nervous at the same time with a new staff there, but I’m curious to meet with the new coaches.”

That's enough. A vol without a doubt

Definately DE.

A few schools (1 or 2) are recruiting him to play LB I think - but even if he did go to one of those schools they'd probably switch him back to DE anyway. I'm not sure what Monte likes in his LBs. Whether he likes them fairly small and quick and bigger types.

Is that DT for the Owls being recruited? I could have sworn I saw where they had another stud, but I don't remember his name and don't know his grade, but I think he's a DT.

Que Jackson, #67.

He's been great this year. Having Jacquez has helped him a lot though. I'm just not sure he's big enough. I don't know if he's 6'0 or not.

I may be wrong, but I believe that the Tampa 2 defense requires the LBs to be quick and fast and able to defend in pass coverage. It also relies on pressure from the front 4.

Yea you are right, look at the Colt's defense, it is as pure of a Tampa 2 as you can find. Small/fast LBs, big hitting safeties, good pass rush, disiplined gap assignments.

Tampa 2 defenses have smaller LBs.

Well that settles it then - he'll be a DE for sure. I've always loved to have massive LBs occasionally though.

Monte may come in and not run a Cover 2 defense. Who knows. He will look at tape and devise a defensive plan to stop the teams we play. A cover 2 would work perfectly on every team with the exception of Florida. Something else would have to be worked up for that game.

His defense-------------FULL MONTE
