2010 Prospects

Division I - 5A is tougher. Division II isn't better because it has a higher number... just is the rich private school league.

I would assume most of the Division II schools would fit in nicely in 4A... the very, very elite in 5A and some of the crappier football schools like Baylor in 3A.

Do you know why they split into two Divisions? It wasn't the public schools begging for a seperation, I'll tell you that much.

If you put BA, MBA, Ensworth, MUS, and McCallie in 5A, they would win 90% of the state championships. Look at all the great WilCo teams in the last decade, only once has one defeated BA. Heck, BA has only lost one game to a county school in its history.

No they wouldn't. And McCallie really isn't even in the other teams league. They are occasionally.

Didn't it take one of McCallie's bests teams a few years ago, with BJ Coleman, a hail mary on the last play of the game to complete something like a 21 point comeback against Alcoa (3A)?

These teams aren't the superior teams some of the big private school fans make them out to be. They are good - no doubt.. and like I said - the elite teams in Division II would mesh nicely into 5A.

90% is an exegeration, but Division II is better than 5A IMO. If you match up the DII winner versus the 5a winner in any given year, my money is on the private school.

Also, I'm not a private supporter.

Having gone to MUS I can understand why Kiffin would want to fence in and lock up MUS' talent as a cornerstone to the foundation of the new era.:scare:

This kid plays right down the street from my house! I'll have to check him out this fall. Good times.

He is a dual-threat QB that does not fit our new offensive system. It is the same reason we told Boyd to walk. So I am interested to see what type of plans Kiffin has for him.

It only takes like 2 wins to get to the state in division II. Not knocking this kid - just saying - isn't that tough in a small division like that.

MUS, BA, MBA, BGA, Christian Bros, and Ensworth are better than 98% of the teams in Tennessee. Maryville, Hillsboro, maybe Alcoa are better. That is it from what i have seen in person this year. You win D2 2A, you are the best in the state.

Brunetti is smart, quick, and a really good arm. He and Jamal Ramsey from BGA are the two best I saw this year. Teague from Henry Cty is great, but not a qb in college.

Yeah, he obviously won't be a QB at UT as Kiffin prefers a a taller QB with a stronger arm.

I want a mobile passer. With the Pro offense he just needs to be a passer first, and then a runner if need be.

Smyrna had more talent that any private school in the past two years... they had Rod Wilks and the Vandy baseball commit that was at QB on their team to go along with tons of other great athletes.

They were the best team in the state hands down - no matter what division.

No - that's just flat out wrong. They're better than 98% of the non-5A teams. The ones you included are the exceptions.

The private schools tend to get more of the bigger named players (there are always exceptions of course.. Jacquez Smith, the O-lineman at Maplewood, Rod Wilks at Smyrna a few years ago, and a few more) but the top 5A schools have better athletes overall in the other positions. If you don't believe that, then you need to stop drinking the private school koolaid and go out to some of the bigger public school games - they are generally deeper and solid at everyone position.

Your opinion.I don't drink private school "kool-aid" (stupid saying also). I do go to several 5A games a year. I've seen ravenwood, Smyrna (i did forget to mention them)Franklin, and Melrose (4a) Riverdale, ect....... MBA, BA and MUS are better TEAMS year in year out than 90% of the others. Look around at the horrible 5A public schools in TN.NOT 100%. Most D2 2A teams are better. It is a fact. And I did say THIS year.

Of course those select schools are better than most 5A schools. Division two is fairly solid from top to bottom unlike 5A where the bottom can get really low with teams like Heritage and Bradley Central.. or is it county?

But I've watched McCallie... and have seen these teams come play them in Chattanooga over the years. They don't have the speed some of the public schools have. They're don't out class the upper echelon in 5A. Can they beat them? Yeah - sure.

Riverdale is crap this year and I haven't heard much out of Melrose so I'm sure they're not too good either. So that's not saying much.

Off topic. But I also find it very interesting that The McCallie school and Baylor claim that the bigger Chattanooga public schools like Ooltewah, Soddy, and Red Bank refuse to play the Tornados and Raiders... when Ooltewah has had 9 games the past two years and couldn't get anyone to play them and won't be much different next year... and Red Bank is forced to schedule a Canadian team...

Yea...we did get off topic. partly my fault. Brunetti is very good. I saw him 2 times this year. Once in the playoffs vs my sons team. He has talent. He does qb the best (besides Maryville) team in Tennessee and he is the best player on that team.

BTW....Many D2 @a schools want to play the bigger 5A/4A teams. BA is the one that seems to get Ravenwood/Franklin each year. Not many publics will play any others.

I would love to see the Owls play McCallie or Baylor. But I've spoke with the AD of the Owls and he said they refuse to play the Owls... and then I spoke with a former Baylor coach who claims its Ooltewah and Red Bank refusing.

What team does your son play for?

I think lane just wants to build a wall around the talent we do have in TN. A good bit of that talent comes from the Memphis area. It gets your foot in the door, shows the local recruits there we are interested and the depth at QB never hurts.

The entire Defensive line I played on was recruited to Brentwood Academy. Of all those guys there were offers from Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, Georgia, Vandy and a bunch from smaller schools. Not one offer from UT. They certainly were thought of better outside this state than here.

He was the qb for state champion memphis university school. I saw him play and he is a talented passer and runner

I guess you missed where BA beat both 5A state championship teams last year, Indy and Smyrna. BA lost to MBA twice.

That loss was also very early in the year... they lost back to back games and weren't playing great. Smyrna also dominated Independence.

"I was kind of shocked to see coach (Lane) Kiffin here, to be honest," Brunetti said. "Coach (Stan) Drayton came by as well. I don't know too much about him but he's young and was in the NFL. I am fired up about him and Tennessee now and I look forward to checking them out and learning more about them."

It appears CLK is "building that fence" early. :salute:

Anyone know much about this kid?

this kid is a player. The top QB prospect in state for 2010. He has great wheels, very good arm..is very coachable and has already been to visit UT on an unoffical. A Great get. He could also play WR...but he is being recruited as a QB......

I shouldn't have been so hard on MUS. During my time the Owls sent Bruce Bolton and later Conrad McCrary to Alabama if I remember correctly. Bruce played under the Bear when he was running the wishbone and had 3 or 4 platoons of running backs.

And the young Stokes lad signed with the Dores last year.

Sounds like Brunetti is a talent. Its good that Kiffin thought it important to make a statement in Memphis and is getting to know the lay of the land for recruiting in the state.
