2011-2012 MLB offseason thread

Agree that Rizzo will be flipped. I think Volquez posts more than serviceable numbers in Petco and that division.

I wouldn't classify Latos as an "established vet" though.

Volquez is going to have to improve his control greatly to be successful anywhere. His problem is not an inability to miss bats, it's the inability to hit the strike zone.

Because of the trade.

I'm just stating an opinion.

For a team that needs great pitching (and doesn't have a lot of depth), I don't understand why they trade Latos unless a) he's not healthy or b) he wanted out.
Fair enough, but afaik there aren't any reports out there saying he isn't healthy. These teams go to great lengths to check these guys out before making a big move, don't they?

I believe I read that the Padres have a lot of pitching prospects; not to mention they were able to fill a lot of their own needs as well. It seems like a really good trade for both sides, imo.

As for Rizzo, I also read (can't recall where) it's likely they will move him too.

If they trade Rizzo, then I get this move a little more.

Look, if Latos is 100% healthy and ready to go, this is a great deal for the Reds. I'm just saying I'd be wary of the trade.

So...Craig comes off the bench?

I think Craig > Jay. I'm hoping for Holliday/Beltran/Craig with Jay filling in as needed.

We'll see how Craig holds up, though - don't think he's going to be playing until May at the earliest.

I think he'll play RF.

Team looks good on paper if injuries are eliminated from baseball.

Also, mixed emotions on the Nats trade.

I don't know how sold you are on Gio bit I don't think the Nats harmed themselves in what they gave up.

At least you didn't pull a Dbacks.. Jerrod Parker is better than Cahill by himself, and they gave up additional pieces..

Jarrod Parker may be hurt and hurt and hurt, though.

I'm not totally sold on Gio. Peacock and Cole would've (and will, especially in Oakland) pitch and do well in the Majors.

Don't care about the Derek Norris loss as much.

Well Craig prolly will be out for a month to start the season, but I can assure you he won't be coming off the bench when he's able to play.

Beltran cf
Craig rf
Berkman 1b
Jay bench/cf

There will be a rotation to keep everyone healthy.

Reds trade LHP Travis Wood, OF Dave Sappelt, and Minor League IF Ronald Torreyes for LHP (Relief) Sean Marshall.

Now, this trade sucks for the Reds. I'm shocked. Maybe I'm overreacting, though.

Sean Marshall is pretty good.

I wonder if he'll get a shot at the rotation again.

If not the left side of their bullpen is pretty good.
