2012 SF Derek Reese - New TN Commit

schools in the last 3 years and they are 9-9 in those 18 games. Stevens is a GREAT coach who has had a remarkable run in the NCAA the last two years. His team benefits greatly from not being pushed night after night in a major conference.

:lolabove:

Then why does he continue to beat the best teams from the Big 12, ACC, Big East and SEC in March?

Brad Stevens has done a great job, no doubt. But, Butler competes in and qualifies for the tournament out of the Horizon League. Put their roster in the Big 12, ACC, Big East or SEC and they might not make the tournament.

This wins the award for most idiotic post of the day.

:good!:

Maybe I was hyperbolic to an extent, but I haven't seen anyone use the Butler model and succeed in a power conference. Be glad to have someone point one out for me.

Because his players don't take the punishment that comes from playing in a big time conforence. You may be
one of the people who think basketball is not a contact
sport. It is.

Hell, McBee and Pearl were averaging more than 20!

You have no point.

And what have they done in college???? Dont get me wrong, I like both McBee and Pearl and love their effort however both are/were role players with limited minutes.

Pearl signed Chism, Josh Tabb and Marques Johnson in his first class.

Didn't Pearl's first class also include Ramar Smith and Duke Crews?

Let's toss in Hopson and Swiperdud to a list or 4* plus guys who were/are all disappointing. JP never really lived up to his hype either... save 4 games in the E8 run.

Pearl and his staff couldn't evaluate or develop talent.

You forget Indiana after Sampson left? That was the quickest decline I've ever seen. As far as the curtains go, let's at least let the team play their first game before we jump to conclusions. We may surprise some. At least that's my hope.

Yep. I've never seen a team that was pretty good, take such a fall in a matter of months. Quite sad.

If the players Pearl recruited are as good as they were projected, we might have a pretty good team this year. However, those guys did not perform very well last year, so w3 will have to wait and see.

if we didn't have 2 leave early for pros then we would be good!

The pros are the pros. Doesn't matter if its NBA or the euro league. They both kid paid more than we do.

Plus, being in the euro league right now isn't look to bad with this lockout as it is, technically there is no NBA pro right now at all.

While Hopson may never be an NBA player and most think he underachieved at UT, he was still a good college player and would help this year's team immensely. My point is simply that if you add Hopson and Harris to this years team we'd be pretty good!

Not sure we'd be much better than last year, especially since the two recruits that Pearl had signed didn't qualify.

You are obviously unaware that the team was distracted
by all the media hype going on with everybody calling for
blood.

Right, & if I weren't so short & old & fat & white I'd be starting for the Knicks.

(I learned how to make excuses from my X)

We actually pretty darn good last year till the NCAA stuff hit wind with the team in mid Dec. If you recall, the timing of our poor play started when the early reports started rolling in.

Also, Emmanuel Negedu was a huge loss no one has talked about too much. His talent, along with his relentless energy, could have put us over the top. He wasn't necessarily a "go-to" type player, but definitely a guy who would get 12-15 points and 7-10 boards a night. Plus, he would still be on the team today had he not been diagnosed with the heart ailment.
