2013-14 Schedule

Thought some might find this interesting, Bruce Pearl played a D2 team in the regular season while at Tennessee. Don't seem to remember people complaining too much back then about it.

I'm certainly not a Bruce guy, but that game was a preliminary game for one of the preseason tournaments that Tennessee was in. I'm not sure if Tennessee had a say in who was playing them, but it was similar to what the Citadel game of this year.

I thought our game against Xavier was part of the hoops marathon, but ESPN released the schedule and I don't see that game listed...

RPIFORECAST and ESPN both included the D2 wins in their win total last year for the MWC teams

Now you know that's not correct.
Rpif. Lists 29 games which don't include Corban and Walla Walla.
Don't know about ESPN but consider the source if they did.

When I looked on RPIFORECAST it included those games I thought, if not then my apologies.

It has been discussed ad nauseum, a quick google search about the MWC finding a loophole in the RPI brings up many articles.

The strength of conference equation included those teams games against D2 teams if I understood correctly. By the MWC teams adding more wins against D2 teams it made their conference look tougher, ultimately giving them the #1 RPI conference. This directly resulted in those MWC teams getting better bids than they deserved, and as we saw, getting beat by lower seeded teams.

Interesting though, we did finish with more wins than BS if you don't count their D2s.

So I did a quick search...I'm seeing something about because its being played at Cintas Center that Fox Sports actually gets the rights to the game or something?

Hmmm. See I live about a hour or so out so we get Fox Sports Ohio but I don't really remember seeing them play on the channel.

But their RPI and conference SOS got them in, in large part to many of the MWC teams playing and beating D2 teams.

Have to disagree but I know the sources are out there saying that.
I think we're in pretty good shape schedule wise this season.
Going by last season's rpis , only scheduled 3 200+ non-c games and the SEC shouldn't be as bad this season.
We played 4 in conference last season.
Get a couple of big wins over someone like NC st, Va, (can we beat witchy there?) and we could be ranked going into conf play.

We will likely be ranked to start the season, so unless you're thinking we struggle early, then we should definitely be ranked going into conference play.

I thought fox sports was the new channel they just came out with this month...

That's Fox Sports 1 and 2 which is getting its own channel. That's going to be more like ESPN and have sportscasters and so on. Fox Sports has been around normally shows games from local teams in your area. No sports center type show tho.

Right...I was meaning that I interpreted it to mean the xavier Tennessee would be on that fox sports 1 channel, not the regional fox sports station.

Idk, guess we will find out.

Does anybody know if our football home and home with Oregon came with a basketball home and home in the future?

No. Is that a common thing?

Not sure how common it is, but it is how we've been able to maintain our series with Memphis. Oregon's bread and butter is football though, unlike Memphis. Basketball is as neglected in Eugene as it has traditionally been in Knoxville. For perspective, Jerry Green left Oregon to come coach under AD Doug Dickey...on purpose.

Right obviously Memphis came to mind...however they look to us for the package deal because of money, Oregon is not hurting for money the least bit.

Which is kinda ironic.IMO Getting back to Chris' point of Jerry Green coming to TN. Didn't we throw a lot more money at Jerry Green than Oregon wanted to spend?

Something worth noting on the scheduling thing...

Not only did Tennessee think they had a home/home with Michigan State, but...they were also one of the only SEC teams minutes from the Big 12/SEC challenge this year. I'm sure Tennessee thought as one of the higher revenue generating teams in the SEC they would definitely be getting a spot in the challenge, but for whatever reason Mike Slive left them out.

Just thought I would mention that, that would've been possibly two big home games added to the schedule.
