2013-14 Schedule

This has to be the worst season for season ticket holders. The home opponents are horrible. There is one game until January worth watching.

Really, comparing it to the last few years, it isn't that bad. Memphis helped the home schedule every other year. Pearl's last year wasn't a great home OOC schedule, and last year, Wichita State, Xavier, and Memphis were the only meaningful OOC home games.

Virginia should be a solid team. NC State may not be great. Sounds like they tried getting Michigan State.

Nc State and Virginia should be pretty decent games to attend no?

Like I've mentioned in this thread, the Michigan State deal falling apart hurt our schedule.

NC State is expecting to finish in the bottom of the ACC this year. Last year that would have been a great game, not this coming. VA is the only one worth watching and even that will be a boring low scoring game with VA game plan to slow the game down.

If Nc State was in the SEC where would they be projected to finish? Point being, ACC is the best conference, so projected to finish middle down doesn't mean you're horrible. They have a great incoming freshman class much like LSU, and many are picking LSU to finish top 5 in SEC and make the dance.

Alot of the excitement about Nc State will depend on where that game falls in both teams schedule. If Nc State has played cupcakes and is sitting at say 8-0 they will likely be hyped up and viewed as a pretty good opponent.

I think it was you I had the disagreement and long discussion with about attendance. IIRC you were adamant that attendance will be down this year, I have said I believe if we are a top 25 team it'll be up. We seem to have different views on the casual fans interest in the program, time will tell.

Did LSU lose their entire starting 5? Do they only have 9 scholarship players coming in?

From what I've seen of their OOC schedule is pretty good, if they are 8-0, then they have made every single analyst that I've read look pretty stupid. Playing MIZZ, Cinn., FGCU, Detroit, and TN. I haven't seen a projection yet that has NCST in the middle of the ACC. Everything I've seen is bottom 2 or 3 to dead last. NCST is not picked to be in the dance like LSU, so there really isn't a comparison to rosters or teams. One is expected to be good and the other isn't.

Wow, not sure who pissed in your Cheerios, but damn! I was simply saying I think it'll be a decent drawing game from a fan perspective, didn't expect you to go off the deep end on me.

Here's the deal, your casual fan doesn't know who they lost or who's incoming. They see the name, they see ACC, they see Mark Gotfried, they see the highly touted freshman...that's what your casual fan sees.

I think there will be more people in attendance to see Nc State then there will be for just about every other home game OOC, that was my point. I also bet there will be a couple conference home games that draw less than the NCST game.

Um, unless I am missing something, he didn't.

Not pissed off at all...Sorry I came off like I was. Just saying that NC State will be a pretty bad team this year. You are right, that NC State will be the biggest draw depending on the night and time, but that's the sad part about our OOC home schedule this year.

Well last year was Wichita, Xavier and Memphis. IIRC Wichita wasn't even projected to make the dance last year preseason. Xavier was probably considered a bubble team or worse, so that left Memphis as the best game by far.

You have Virginia at home who's projected to make the dance, and Nc State who we've already discussed. It's missing that marquee game, but as I've mentioned the AD thought they had a series with Michigan State locked up which would've trumped Memphis last year IMO.

Our home schedule isn't very good, but our road schedule is better this year than last IMO. So while it may not be great for season ticket holders initially, playing tougher road game may end up being beneficial towards the end of the season....and if that's the case then everyone is happy :)

This is the year to look at buying the 4 pack SEC home schedule deals. There should be no reason what so ever to have to buy a ticket until SEC time. There should be plenty of freebies out there. I gave away 1 - 3 per game last year until midway in the SEC schedule.

If I didn't already have mine, then I might look at buying Ice Bears season tix this year and the 4 packs in BB. That SEC schedule better be loaded with big ticket games. If not, then I'm willing to bet a coke and popcorn the last game of the year that we don't break last year's attendance numbers.

I haven't bought season tickets in years for a few reasons. The two biggest 1. I can't make every game 2. To get "good" seats you have to donate a fortune (IMO).

For the past couple years I've gone the way of scalpers...for non conference games ill sit sideline lower level for 10-20 bucks pp. for big games a little more, I spent $100 total for 2 tix 3 rows up on the sideline for Memphis last year. So the way I see it, is rather spend $300, go to 10 games, and sit in good seats than get season tix in the upper deck.

Ice Bears tickets? Come on. You're better than that. I wouldn't take Ice Bears tix if you taped them to a gold brick.

J/k...I'd take the gold, but I'd think about it first.

I try to at least make one game a year. Sitting downstairs by the rink is not bad. They got a full bar down there. But, no, I'm not a fan either.

My point was there won't be much basketball entertainment in TBA until Jan, so people might look at spending their entertainment money elsewhere.

I'm just messin. One hockey game a year isn't bad. It's actually halfway entertaining in person. Don't know if I could do season tix, and certainly can't watch it on tv.

Are you only interested in watching the big games? Do you not think it's fun when we get to see our depth chart against the bottom feeders?

I will be at every home game, but no, I do not want to see our depth continue to play all the way through January. I would like to see some big ticket games and our team face top teams at TBA. Especially, if I'm paying for season tickets. For those who choose not to buy the season tickets, then maybe it's not that big of a deal.

Xavier/Wichita games are going to be extremely tough. Xavier's Xavier and Wichita should still be a top 25 team this year. They only lost one starter, IIRC.

I think UT was going to sweep Candy again this year, but after yesterday's news it is almost assured. Candy loses their best player for the year due to suspension and then loses another player that decided to go back home to Germany. That is now 3 players gone from last year's team that were supposed to make big contributions this year. They are going to suck royally. And I'm going to enjoy every bit of it.

They have now lost Kevin Bright, Kedren Johnson and Sheldon Jeter.

You mean players aren't buying into Kevin Stallings' sparkling personality?!? And he seems like such a players coach.

Schedule all your non conference road games with extremely weak sisters. Schedule your home non conference schedule with stronger opponents. Win the games you should win within your conference, waltz into the NCAA tournament.

Maybe it’s just me, and I know UT controlled its own destiny, and blew it. But the resume was still stronger than many other teams who got in. As good as MTSU is this year, do you really believe they’d hold up as well with the same schedule UT played last year? I don’t believe they’d even get a sniff.

Plus, all these teams that play in nothing leagues that get automatic bids as conference champs or conference tourney champs, that’s a joke and it needs to change. I live in Dayton, have Flyers season tickets, hence tickets to the play in games and some good first rounders. The play in games hold absolutely no interest this year.

It's extremely important to start off the season well, something Martin has not done yet. No reason not to this year. Early season success against good teams is what got UT noticed when Pearl was coach. No, I'm not a Pearl lover and don't think he should return as coach.:)

I'm glad Cuonzo stuck Tusculum in for a regular season game. It's his way of mocking the NCAA Committee for rewarding two bubble teams for doing the exact same thing last season.
