2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

Not really. The SEC, even with its crappy lower half, will still be a FAR better conference than the new Big East.

Tulane? Seriously? lol

Just as a followup to this conversation, the Big East-SEC challenge finished up 9-3 in the Big East's favor.

Also, if my calculations are correct, the terrible "New Big East" went 7-2 against SEC.

Not definitiveproof, but it's a pretty strong statement.

The SEC was weak last year and it looks worse so far this year.

The SEC is down this season. It's pretty obvious. The lower half of the conference is as bad as I've ever seen it. That doesn't mean that the "New Big East" will be a better conference in three years, though. The SEC dominated recruiting in 2013 and some of those recruiting classes could be foundation classes for a few programs (LSU in particular).

However, the SEC wasn't down in 2011-12. The conference represented itself well in non-conference play and was pretty high in the RPI. The bottom of the conference was solid, and there were only a few true "bottom feeders" (obviously it's a completely different story this season). It only got 4 bids, but that's somewhat misleading since Mississippi State, Tennessee, and Ole Miss were all probably one win from making the tourney.

Looks like the Big East is about to become an even bigger joke that we originally predicted. This super conference you thought you were joining, is going to look a whole lot different than what you thought you were getting into.

So the big east has lost Cuse, L'ville, Pitt, Rutgers, Notre Dame, and WVU.

They're about to lose Depaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. Johns, Seton Hall, and Villanova.

UConn to the ACC is a ticking time bomb. Cinci will likely end up in the ACC as well.

I almost feel bad for Memphis. Almost.

I would almost guess Memphis tries to back out of the Big East commitment and re-join C-USA or attempt to get into the A-10

What "new big east" are you referring to?

It's looking like the only remaining big east schools are gonna be Cincinnati, UCONN and South Florida. They will be joined by a bunch of C-USA members, wow what a powerhouse that conference outta be.

Departing the big east: Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Louisville, Norte Dame, Providence, Seton Hall, Marquette, Rutgers, Depaul, St. John's and Villanova. WOW!

Poor Memphis thought they were joining a better conference.

And the vultures start circling on cue.

I'll take the A-10 in a heartbeat.

The only thing I will be upset about is going back to the C-USA. But the league has already filled in vacant spots with FIU, MTSu and the like.

It'll be interesting to see what happens.

You guys aren't getting an A-10 invite, and by the looks of things you're not on the radar of the catholic schools. They have a bunch of schools they want according to an ESPN article.

That'd be one definition, sure.

Still think the big east is the better conference going forward?

Not after this, no.

EDIT: I'm assuming you're talking about the BE and SEC. If you're talking about the BE and the C-USA, from which Memphis came, the BE is still clearly a step up.

So a vulture is one that flocks to another team's message board?

I don't get the analogy.

I think his point is that you accused him and others of circling over the dying Big East to poke fun at everyone below, and he reminded you that he is still sitting inside his own house. He hasn't flown to another team's message board to troll everyone who thought they were going to the top basketball conference in the country.

So now vultures troll everyone? The analogy still fails the way you've described it.

I also never claimed that Memphis was going to the ACC. Now you're just manufacturing things.

The ACC wasn't even close to being the best conference in the country until the Big East started to fall apart. The B1G and Big East were clearly better until the Syracuses and Pitts started to roll in.

Meh, I'm not on the B1G bandwagon. But the old Big East was clearly the best basketball conference, with the ACC jostling out the B1G for second. Now, it's clear that the ACC is the best bball conference, hands down.
