Year Four- The narrative is "can he win in the NCAA's and can he beat top 25 teams"? Memphis eats C-USA alive for the second year in a row, but loses most significant OOC games. Pastner finally gets his first NCAA win and Top 25 win, though. Has another top 4 recruiting class coming in, along with a bevvy of seniors for next season.
I see improvement. He's not on the Shaka Smart/Brad Stephens parabola of success as a young coach, but not many young coaches are.
St. Mary's.
St. Mary's wasn't a consensus top 25 team, think they were in one poll and out the other.
Anytime pastner runs into a team with equal talent he loses.
Again, watch out where your throw rocks around your glass house, boudreax.
I just checked and saw they were 25th in the Coaches Poll (32nd in AP).
"Last Four In" doesn't exactly scream Top 25. I guess that technically counts. A lot of people who aren't Memphis fans will probably enter next season saying he still has zero Top 25 wins. Once the tournaments starts, the only "Top 25" that matters is the teams the Selection Committee decides are 1-25.
FWIW, I'm in the camp that believes that one doesn't count. Beating an 11 seed that had to win one of the Dayton play-in games but happens to be ranked 25th in the Coaches Poll doesn't get the Top 25 monkey off of his back, IMO.
Looky here Sparky.. I'm not saying we don't suck. But I am saying we beat 2 Sweet 16 teams. More than your homeboy Pastner can say.

So is the knock on him going to be "he can't beat consenuss top 25 teams" hereafter? And when he does, what will it be then?
St. Mary's has a future NBA first rounder, UT probably has at least 2, how many does Memphis have?
