2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

From a knoxville radio show today..

- questions if Austin's parents where giving off accurate info the entire time

- said Nichols informed staff when he left Alabama weekend he was a Vol

- says Tennessee had J3, but it was one or the other and they parted with J3 because they felt they had Nichols.

- says CCM will learn a lesson on who you can and can not trust in Memphis with legitimate info

- expects staff to maybe look to the foreign ranks for a European type of guy like WV just pulled

- says they've monitored Keanu Post and Luke Cothron in the JUCO ranks

- says Tracy Webster is a pro at this, the staff will have no trouble finding someone, the question will just be landing then

- thinks Maymom is out much longer than the 3-4 weeks reported

weak sauce.

Care to elaborate with actual talking points?

So now radio personalities think Austin's parents lied to the staff? That's pathetic.

Also, UT was never in the lead for JT3. He wasn't coming to UT, no matter if RH or Nichols committed or didn't commit.

I don't know what the "CCM learned who you can trust in Memphis with legitimate info" is even supposed to imply. If it's implying that CCM was "duped" by Nichols, then that's his own damn fault. If it's implying that someone else can't be trusted for/with legitimate info, I'd like to know what it means.

Well I can assure you this guy knows what he's talking about, you know who he is, but I'll leave names out, he's far from a radio personality, he makes an appearance once or twice a month...

It's been reported by multiple people Austin told the staff he was coming here...the lying part was more about the degree...how many times did they say they wanted a high academic school etc etc, yet they go with Memphis over duke, vandy, or Virginia. If it was simply about staying home and playing where mom could see you every game, why this whole process, Memphis was the pick the whole time??

And you're correct, we never lead for John Thompson lll but we did lead for Jonathan Williams lll, and elected to go another route and pass on him...in hind sight the staff probably would've done things differently. If you don't want to admit Tennessee passed on J3 that's fine, but his father even said we didn't contact him once in 2+ weeks leading up to his announcement.

What I took it as meaning, was CCM and/or staff were told by people close to Nichols, whether it be coaches, parents, family etc etc that he was a Vol. Maybe it wasn't any of those, maybe it was just some people involved with Memphis city basketball relying them the info...but regardless of whoever it was, it's clear they received some bad info.

They obviously decided on Memphis only a few days ago. What makes you think it was Memphis the whole time? Maybe he did tell CCM and staff that he wanted to be a Vol; IMO, CCM needs to seal the deal then and not let a 5 star recruit leave Knoxville and go back to Memphis. Don't shame Nichols, an 18 year old kid, for "lying" to Martin, shame Martin, a grown ass man, for acting like a mope and not locking him down.

No you didn't. UT didn't lead for him and didn't contact him because they were not in the running after his visit.

Then that's no one's fault but Martin and his staff for relying on bad info.

You sound real petty right now, bro.

You sound real petty right now, bro.

I'm relaying info from someone who knows more about basketball than you could dream of, I've stated over and over I'm happy for Austin, it's a big weight off of his shoulders.

Martin got a verbal from Austin, family wouldn't let him announce they were taking all 5 visits, but said hed announce to Tennessee. Tennessee went and visited him before they left for Auburn, and when they returned Nichols locked out all contract...that's when the switch was made.

If you honestly believe Tennessee lost Nichols because of a lack of effort by Martin, then I really have lost a lot respect for anything you say, and will question your level of basketball education from here on out.

Nichols was a Vol until the doors were sealed from all contact, what was Martin supposed to do? Momma got what she wanted, that's simply what it came down to; if it was only Austins decision he'd be at tennessee.

No need to be pety, Memphis got him, that's all that matters...great get for Josh and good luck to Austin.

It's a 17 year old's decision. Nothing is ever solid or concrete until the ink is dry. To believe otherwise will drive you crazy.

This one just about did, I really thought the kid was a UT lock. One bright thing is I guess if I want to watch him play live he is only a 20 - 25 min drive away from the FXF.

I give you a lot of grief in this forum, much of it good-natured and light-hearted, and some of it is genuine irritation. One of the most irritating things I find you doing quite often is speaking in absolutes as if you are in the room with these kids helping them make the decision.

You don't know what was going on with JW3 anymore than me or Joe Blow. Quit acting like its completely outside of the realm of possibility that he might have come to Tennessee were it not for certain factors, whatever they may have been.

Enjoy that you got Austin and roll with it.

Edit: Just to be clear and to not give the impression that I'm raking you over the coals here; I generally make a point to let you know when I agree with your points so as to not seem antagonistic with regards to your opinion.

Which part is pathetic? I'm not saying I believe that they lied but if you're saying that a parent could never mislead someone ,then come on.

His parents aren't contrained by any rules here. Short of telling CCM "I swear on my good name that my son will sign a LOI to UT", there can be no misleading.

It's the coach's job to secure the class, and "the recruit's parents told me one thing and he did another" isn't an excuse. Sports betters, financial planners, weathermen can't use "bad info" as an excuse for a do over. No adults can.

You can choose believe me or not, but I pretty much knew from the jump that JW3 was not going to UT. When other people said that "he was a UT lean" or "if he committed today, he'd go to UT" I bit my tongue and merely let on that I was skeptical. I'm a guest on this board and I don't need to pull someone's card and start a big argument.

He was not coming to UT, plain and simple. People on this board got bad info. As you will see through his college career, that's not necessarily a bad thing, I predict.

^ The same way you knew Nichols wasn't going to Memphis right? And you posted that on multiple boards fwiw.

Point being, you've been preaching about this Nichols thing saying how that just shows how things can change or how people can have bad info...yet you're dead set you info on J3 is as good as gold. It's a complete contradiction.

Wow. that's all I can say.

You got bad info concerning JW3.

The info you got about Nichols, even as far as telling Martin that he would be a Vol, may be true for all I know.

The information regarding where JW3 was leaning was not true, though. I didn't call you out on it because it would start a huge argument, but Galilee owes you an apology on this one. I hinted at you that he was mistaken, several times.

Insinuating that UT could've had JW3 is rewriting history. UT wasn't getting him.

Galilee isn't the only one, and I was told personally from someone in that family, he was leaning towards the Vols a few weeks prior to his visit. I'll take the word of someone inside that family over your "sources".
