2021 Lady Vol Recruiting Thread

Georgia used to be where we found a lot of great Lady Vols haven't done well there in recent years.
In the past, Pat got good basketball players from anywhere she wanted. We have to realize that women's basketball has come a long way and the games is so much more competitive now than it was 10-15 years ago. It is a shame that we are now having to rebuild the program, but fortunate that the rebuild is beginning to to take shape.

Agreed. It’s not like it used to be. After Title 9 girls and women’s sports came along at different rates in the country. Traditionally state like Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, Texas and California produced the top women’s players. The game has expanded and grown all over the world (thanks Pat Summitt!!). Now you can find truly elite players anywhere.

Colorado, for example, was never a women’s bball hunting ground that I remember. There were a few players from there. I think Glory Johnson was from Colorado Springs originally before moving to Knoxville? But in the last few season we have seen some really talented players in the PAC 12 from CO. Onyenwere at UCLA, Prechtel, Belibi, Van Guytenbeek and now Lauren Betts. Just have to go looking and you can find great talent anywhere.

Colorado. Becky Hammon. Probably the greatest point guard the women's college game has ever seen. Had to become a Russian dual citizen to get to play in the Olympics, since UCONN's Sue Bird had Carol Callen and USA Basketball's roster spot locked up.

Becky played at Colorado State but was recruited out of South Dakota. One of the best to ever do it for sure. There weren’t really any high profile players from the state of Colorado until the last 5 years or so that I can recall.

And how about Idaho with Destiny Slocum who was the NFOY at Maryland? That proves you can find talent anywhere just gotta look!
