When USC was in the NCAA tournament the year UVA win it all (USC was in their regional), Southall 6-14 in the regional.

I like your optimism but we have a kid on the roster coming in with top 3round talent. Let him play and play everyday.

I think Pence can play short, I just think you can put this kid somewhere else in the field if he hits.

Fairly closely.

Close enough to know he has serious talent but also close enough to know his "make up" is questionable

Right on about the talent. He is going to be fun to watch with the VOLS just like he was with Team TN, Royals Scout Team, and Diamond/Simcox. I saw him play at Vandy for Royals. Jumped to catch a rocket over short, snow coned it, transitioned, threw a laser to 1st and landed flat on his back in a cloud of dust. Coaches came running. DP sits up and asks did I get him? Yep, out. I know he is young but he is in the right place to grow and has some good guys with him.

We didn't even make his final three while also saying,

"That's the biggest thing to me," Strider said. "You've got to look at where a program's heading."

No worries 66. If the kid is that jacked up about being a South Carolina tea cup sipper in the wrong color orange then fine. It has to be a good fit both ways.

He is a good pitcher and I have seen him play about 5 times over the last two years. What I notice is that he is awesome against avg HS talent. However, I also noticed that he gets hit pretty hard by good HS talent. He has a really nice team playing defense behind him and that helps a lot with his numbers. I have also heard from some of my friends that have kids playing for CAK that he isn't the best teammate. I wish him luck at Clemson but I am not sweating the loss.

Saw on the Perfect Game website that RHP Garrett Cave has committed to the Vols. He's been at Florida International for two seasons. So the question is will he be eligible in 2017?

He was a starter in 2016 for FIU but has been the closer for Hyannis in the Cape Cod League this summer.

If he played in 2016 as a soph., he would not be eligible until 2018. That is a nice pick up though. I saw where he was pitcher of the week once this summer in the Cape. He also pitched against us during his freshman year at FIU and only gave up 1 ER in 4 innings.

You miss read that tweet. He's going to UT! University of Tampa

He's an elite high draft arm. I assume grades are behind the change

Updated with Gilliam and Wallace. When we figure out Cave's eligibility, then I'll put him down. Added Southall and Pennington.

I'll be more on top of this.

Judging by Serrano Twitter looks like we got a commitment for the 2018 class tonight

Austin Knight
@knightaustin14: Proud to announce that I've committed to play baseball at the University of Tennessee ⚾️⚾️ #govols

Found our 2018 commit from yesterday.

Perfect Game ranked him at 9/10 last month.
6'1
175

He is from Jacksonville, FL.

From PBR Florida earlier in the week.

Austin Knight, SS, Bolles HS,FL (2018):
Uncommitted, the high waisted 6-foot-1 170 pound shortstop isn’t overly flashy, but just seems to make all of the plays and have solid competitive at-bats. He has above average range, with an average arm and good hands that should see him staying at short. He was very solid defensively all week on nearly everything hit his way. Offensively, he has a compact level swing with a good approach and some gap-to-gap power. He still has room to fill out and continue to get better. Overall a very solid all around player

Something I noticed when looking the Knight kid up. At the Perfect Game USA National JR Showcase. Jarrett Ford and Paul Komistek ran 2 of the 5 best 60's and 2 of the 3 best 10's at the showcase. Both are 2018 commits to us.

I also saw online where 2017 commit Sean Hunley pitched a 2-hitter for Game On Baseball out of GA in championship game of the Global WS this past week. Looks like the 2017 and 2018 list of commits is shaping up nicely.
