2023 Recruiting

Tennessee just had about 5 highly rated, recruited prospects on campus for a visit against LSU to end the regular season. The #6 recruit in the 2023 class stated it was their 5th visit to Tennessee. That doesn’t sound like to me that Tennessee isn’t a school players don’t want to attend any longer. It’s a lot more that goes into these decisions then just basketball.
Tenn received a commitment from a highly recruited player out of the portal in the last two weeks who was recruited by Baylor & Louisville plus multiple SEC schools.
Injury after injury has greatly impacted a still promising season for a team that will be a top 16 seed in the NCAA tournament. After the tournament, my instincts are telling me based on the energy surrounding the program they’ll add atleast 1 or 2 more key pieces to the 2022 class.
Perhaps KJH & her coaching staff have a plan that they are sticking to. Have they loss some battles.. sure. Have they won some.. yes.
If you don’t think the top colleges in the country are still going after Justine Pissott and trying to pry her away then you’re sadly mistaken. I said that to say that EVERY fan of Tennessee need to start showing more appreciation for the players who have made the decision to be a LV.
Let recruiting take care of itself.
I just know that there’s many great basketball players interested in playing at the University of Tennessee.
And as always, we want the right players….

I know Kellie is going crazy over this 2023 class. I hope she succeeds, it’s an important year for her.
All signs point to it being a good recruiting class. She has been the head coach for 3 years so she isn't a mystery. It's obvious her players love her and the program has done well in the AP. I expect at least 2 5-stars in a class of 4 and perhaps a blockbuster signing out of the portal.

Yes, but she is going for the top recruits…. And as far as I know, not many have announced yet.
2023 may depend on home cooking. I am reading the LA schools are recruiting the west coast talent hard. Then there is the possibility of Booker staying with Kim and will Fulwiley continue the SCAR trend. Also if you want a big, there just aren't many in the 2024 class. So it's either get one in 2023 or the portal.

So she wasn't going for the top recruits in the 20 class? The 21 class? The 22 class? Glad she finally decided to get serious about recruiting...

Reality says she probably wasn't going for the top recruits in 20 and 21, knowing she had to show program improvement in order to attract top talent. 22, she likely went for top recruits, in fact the record is clear that she did. Notice that she didn't take any recruits other than Pissott (a top recruit) just to sign someone. She knows she can work the portal if top recruits don't sign here. The notion that she wasn't serious about recruiting until 23 is ridiculous and an asinine suggestion, obviously another gratuitous shot at Harper. Just can't resist, can you?

don't play with the troll

I think Miles is a great change of pace PG that can be disruptive on the defensive end, but I was thinking more of...

...this. Others may disagree, but they need a PG that is a scoring threat - the way that someone like Clark, Henderson, or Bueckers is able to deliver. Tennessee has been playing without consistent scoring from the PG frankly since Westbrook left. Not saying the PG should be the leading scorer, but they can't be afraid to shoot the ball, and need to have the offensive skills to keep defenses honest. Powell looks to be able to fill this gap, even if she's not a "big" guard. I'm more interested in seeing her ability to be a scoring threat on something other than drives to the basket. Hopefully, whoever succeeds her as the lead guard will have the same skillset.
I think if she can develop her shot and perfect her runner/floater, there is no reason she can’t run this team as effectively as Shannon Bobbit did. I think she has it in her.

This incident with BK concerns me. Was there a toxicology report? Probably not, doubt they’d take blood. Situation is rather mysterious. Was she drugged? 18-19 y/o with a dedication to sport is awful young to be able to consume enough EtOH to be able to pass out like that. Think she would have been vomiting violently before reaching a level like that to be so sedated she didn’t stir with the window being punched in. Where were her teammates or friends. Just doesn’t sound like LV culture to be left alone in that condition. Given that Kellie only gave a one game suspension, it might be that she is aware of some circumstances surrounding the incident that could be worrisome. I hope that Brooklyn is okay, and learned from this incident about safety and protecting herself.

That is why I have said a few times it may be so important to fill some of those positions with portal players that have more than one year of eligibility left. We have one already very early in the portal season. Getting at least a couple more top players with two years eligibility has to be the goal and I could say they might want more just don't have the scholarships to do anymore. The six player senior class we are losing is a lot to lose when your junior class was only a couple players and they are more of the role playing type than the take charge superior players. Even if the 2023 class proves to be elite they are freshmen and not expected to be able to replace the contributions of players like Key and Horston. We'll have to be very careful as to how we use these last two scholarships. I like the way we used the one thus far, but I would think we'd start the waiting game until after the tourney and the portal fills up to make any further selections. What we actually need for next season is two players with the same ability of Key and Horston which may be impossible to find, but we need to get as close as possible to players that can fill their roles.
We’re not necessarily losing six Seniors from the 2022 class for 2023. Powell has already said she wants to play two years, and assuming Horston and Key leave, it’s possible Emily and Jessie stay another year, putting the roster at ten, not seven, which would leave five possible spots, and there’s also Edie who might be offered a scholarship.

Kellie doesn’t usually fill the roster to the possible fifteen, but after this year’s injuries, she might start, plus there are probably players she would definitely take, even if means we have a fifteen player roster, plus maybe a walk on. It’s just too early to tell, because we don’t know for sure who’s coming back for an extra year.

Said on WATE that they took blood. I’m like you, as small as she is and not being responsive when they punched the window out, hard to believe she could even get behind the wheel to drive

I think she will be able to do a lot of the things Bobbitt did, but would really need to improve her shooting from the three. Bobbitt was a 40 percent three point shooter.

Bobbitt and Miles have some similarities. Yet the player Miles reminds me of the most is a young version of Diamond Johnson at NCSt. Johnson was highly touted out of HS and was expected to be very good on the college level. In her 1st year, Miles has exceeded expectations on the defensive side. Her impact defensively at the PG position will be well noted in the years to come… now for her to reach the overall level of play that is seen from Diamond Johnson it’ll take developing offensively. She has good handles. She sees the floor well for a young player. Needs to improve her shooting fundamentals & ability to get to the free throw line; which means she needs to get a lot better shooting free throws. All of this is very much possible for a player with Miles skillset.

Yes she has mentioned she will stay and hopefully she fulfills that promise. Jordan and Tamari can stay as well doubt either of them do. Saunders and Rennie also are eligible to stay don't think we should extend them the offer.

Miles could be very good if she develops a consistent 3-pt shot. Teams know that they don't have to close out on her quickly because she doesn't have confidence in her jumper. Right now, she doesn't even try to keep the defenses honest and they just sag off of her.

Could have ended so much worse. Chills me!

Powell has already said she wants to play two years,

I will point to Azure Stevens and Dorka Juhaz who both transferred in to UConn. Stevens left after 1 year (Leaving the team with no post) and Juhaz took part in this years senior night indicating she is probably gone after one year. Players think they want to remain in college as long as they can, but when the get close to an exit date with money available on the other side their thinking begins to change.

I'll point to our very own John Fulkerson who took part in two senior night activities. Thought he was leaving and then decided to return. She also is focused not only basketball but academics (and communications) which obviously wasn't Stevens focus or she would have stayed at Duke.

Wasn't Geno left than thrilled when Stevens left as well? I thought i read where he said it wasn't expected or something. I'm sure he supported her but was more so shocked

Is Juhasz leaving after this season? Wow, your post game just took a huge downward drop then after this season.

the big difference is Jazzy is using her 1st transfer to UT,,,for her to get a second one to go elsewhere, she would have to jump through hoops...she will be here for two
