2023 Recruiting

Is Juhasz leaving after this season? Wow, your post game just took a huge downward drop then after this season.
She said she has not made a decision yet, and has hopes of eventually playing in Europe. I'm sure she is taking in to consideration the state of affairs next door to her home country of Hungary right now. It may just bode well for her to stay, get another year under her belt and go out in 2023. On another note, I think UConn is just fine if she does decide to leave.

I'll point to our very own John Fulkerson who took part in two senior night activities. Thought he was leaving and then decided to return. She also is focused not only basketball but academics (and communications) which obviously wasn't Stevens focus or she would have stayed at Duke.

Wasn't Geno left than thrilled when Stevens left as well? I thought i read where he said it wasn't expected or something. I'm sure he supported her but was more so shocked

He was surprised at both Steven's and Tuck, but supported them both. Juhasz did participate in Senior day, because she finished her degree at Ohio State as a junior and was not able to participate in theirs. She wanted to be recognized as part of this senior class at UConn, as they have been through so much. I think she will stay, to be honest.

As far as senior night at UConn, Geno said you only get one bite of the apple. If you walk and come back you don't get another senior night.

She walked on senior night so it's going to leave a hole. Amari may be the best passing and shooting big we have ever recruited but so far hasn't stepped up defensively. What we may be seeing next year is 4 guards and Aaliyah. We have Ice and Yanna coming in who both factor as 4's but never count on a freshman for anything but mistakes.

the big difference is Jazzy is using her 1st transfer to UT,,,for her to get a second one to go elsewhere, she would have to jump through hoops...she will be here for two

I understand the lady is coming here for her senior year. If she were to transfer to another school she would be a grad transfer and there are no hoops.

“Juhász participated in senior day and while she hasn’t made a decision about returning for next year, she mentioned that she planned on taking part in senior day from the moment she committed to UConn from Ohio State. Juhász told me this over the summer:
“When I transferred, I’m definitely looking forward to having that two years,” she said. “It’s gonna be one by one. We’ll see how obviously this year goes but I’m definitely not looking forward to just use one year, I’m definitely looking forward to use two.”
If I had to guess, Juhász will be back next season. Barring a huge NCAA Tournament, she won’t be a first round pick in the WNBA Draft and while she could explore options overseas — especially in her home country of Hungary — she’s publicly stated that playing in the W is a dream of hers. Assuming there’s no outside factors at play, Juhász’s best chance to accomplish that goal is to return to UConn for her fifth year.”

From a sports reporter who covers U Ct., Daniel Connelly.

Mailbag: Is UConn still a Final Four team without Paige Bueckers?

She won't be a first round pick next year either.

Frankly, she would have looked better graduating this season if she stayed at OSU. She'd have a bigger role and would have put up better #s.

I totally agree, if the goal is to play in the WNBA she has a better shot this year (of being drafted and possibly making a roster) than she does with the loaded class next year. I also felt like she should've stayed at Ohio State or join somewhere else where she had more freedom in that teams offense than she does there. Will her numbers increase next year. Geno often have a shorter leash with his Post Players than he does with his guards at times.

Yeah, if her goal is to play at the next level, it was a huge mistake to go to UCONN. She has not gotten any better as far as I can see. These players think if they transfer to UCONN they will automatically get a free pass to the WNBA. I think Westbrook is also going to learn a hard lesson about that...

Bobbitt and Miles have some similarities. Yet the player Miles reminds me of the most is a young version of Diamond Johnson at NCSt. Johnson was highly touted out of HS and was expected to be very good on the college level. In her 1st year, Miles has exceeded expectations on the defensive side. Her impact defensively at the PG position will be well noted in the years to come… now for her to reach the overall level of play that is seen from Diamond Johnson it’ll take developing offensively. She has good handles. She sees the floor well for a young player. Needs to improve her shooting fundamentals & ability to get to the free throw line; which means she needs to get a lot better shooting free throws. All of this is very much possible for a player with Miles skillset.

I don't see the comparison other than size. Bobbitt and Diamond Johnson can light it up from the outside. Miles is not a very good shooter and I don't expect that to drastically improve to Diamond level.

I will point to Azure Stevens and Dorka Juhaz who both transferred in to UConn. Stevens left after 1 year (Leaving the team with no post) and Juhaz took part in this years senior night indicating she is probably gone after one year.

Because both players explicitly said when they committed to UConn they wanted to use all their remaining eligibility, right? Stevens was projected to be a high WNBA draft pick, and the other one hasn't even formally announced she's leaving yet.

You should point to better examples next time, these have absolutely no relevance to Powell...

There isn't, just fans seriously reaching.

Shooting can be improved to some degree, but a lot of it is innate talent. Players who shoot as poorly as Miles at this stage rarely develop into good shooters later in their careers...

Ace inked with WVU back in November. Her offer wasn’t pulled or anything. WVU allowed players to come back and she was told upfront those players would not be back.

i know one of the other signees: commits mentioned how she truly wanted to play for WVU but because players returned that she had to change course. So i could see where one would think her scholarship was pulled or something else. She doesn't seem like a kid afraid to compete for time either. Ace also seemed excited to sign there. Was it a rash decision? I could see her at a Iowa St or Alabama

I heard it was a cultural issues and WVU being shady on the back end. Not about playing time but trust over the phone vs in person. Things went south after her 1 visit apparently. Covid really messed with these 22s

And who cares? The title of this thread is what? I know needorange is a very respectful poster, but I really don’t care to see this in the “Lady Vols News” thread.

the only innate part is the mind ( a shooter's mentality),,,Mechanics plays a much larger role and is anything but innate

I can make a shooter out of most anyone who wants to be one,,,what I can't give them is their own mind

Shocked and dismayed is far from true, but your notes about only one Senior night is true.

I think she will be able to do a lot of the things Bobbitt did, but would really need to improve her shooting from the three. Bobbitt was a 40 percent three point shooter.
She doesn’t have bad form. I’m guessing she wasn’t reliant on it because she was so much faster than her opponents. If she gets in the gym this summer, the possibilities are endless!

Just being polite by answering other posters. I think polite is good, don't you?
