Top 3 would be realistic.

I never understood why Miss St didn't snatch Dan Mullen back up last off-season.

He's never gonna win you a NC-a d chances are one would not be possible in Starkville if they somehow hired Saban. He did keep them at 7-8 wins a season for a decade though. Far cry from where they are now

He’d be dumb to go back there because that program dropped like a brick when he left and it would take 2-3 years to restock and rebuild and there is no patience for that.

They were fine with Leach. Him passing unexpectedly is what destroyed them.

Lost some of their key players in the transfer portal and their just completed recruiting class was screwed. Basically, an analog to what Kiff did here when he bolted for USC.

This one was brought about by fate though and not someone's narcissistic personality

Mack Brown was willing to resign after the NCSU game but UNC couldn't wait and canned him. Crazy way to treat a coach that did better than anyone else there.

Legendary Coach Bluntly Torches Program After Being Fired

"All I wanted to do was wait until the end of the year. And they wanted me to retire on Monday, before the (NC) State game. We haven’t beaten State, it was really important for these kids to play well and have a chance to win. I didn’t want to break their hearts on Monday. So I said, ‘No, I won’t do that.’ And then they wanted me to do it on Friday. Well I sure wasn’t going to do it Friday before the game…As far as the he-said, she-said and the, what you’d call the ‘source close to the University,’ for a few of ya, I don’t need any of that. There were three people that talked about this. And it was me and John Cryer, chairman of the Board of Trustees, and athletics director (Bubba) Cunningham. I never talked to the chancellor, didn’t have one conversation with him."

That’s a garbage way to treat an old man. Maybe UNC had some animosity over Brown leaving for Texas years ago and wanted to repay him since he couldn’t do what he was re-hired to do at UNC.

Having to pay his buyout is really gonna stick it to him I tells ya.

How many millions because UNC got in a hurry? Lol

It was $2.8 million.

The Brown quote sounded like he kept his intent to resign to himself. All he said was “no” to resigning when they asked him to. Anyone can claim that intent after the fact, to smear their former employer.

I did not know that the chancellor of a university has the potential authority to over ride the decisions of an athletic director.

Didn't this come up here during the Schiano debacle? Chancellor Plowman held up on signing the contract or something to that effect which effectively gave cover for everyone to back away from the hire.

Of course. The chancellor oversees the university and the athletic department is one of many units under the university umbrella. I know athletics is front and center in the public eye, but it’s still a cog in the institutional wheel. Everyone has a boss.

I remember when Herman was the next big thing

Didn't Herman and his wife get caught snorting cocaine off a hooker's ass?

Not that I have a problem with that.

Think it would be cool as hell to have a head coach and his wife that are freaks.

I don't believe Brown when he says he agreed to resign to his AD. A person willing to resign does not publicly state he has every intention of coaching next year when asked twice in the past 72 hours.

I also think UNC announced his firing last week because they have an offer on the table to someone who is coaching this Championship week.

Nearly 60 years old. Probably doesn’t want to have to put up with everything that goes along with being a HC these days. Plus, he would have been on the hot seat to start next year. So he probably saw the writing on the wall and decided to leave on his own terms.
That’s all likely. He can make close to the same amount of money at FSU and he can afford top talent to compete on the national stage, which should make it easier to succeed in a conference like the ACC, at a marquee school (FSU).

It’s less work and better for the resume.

Yeah this one is interesting. Suckeye fans want him gone bit how do you fire a guy who just got you to the playoffs?

Plus there's no logical successor and not really any big name homerun hire names out there-unless they bring back Urban. Seems like he already burned some of his bridges in Columbus.
Yea, lots of chat on the Ohio State boards about Day. He just might leave on his own and not wait to be fired. Apparently the buckeye fans have been pretty hard on his family. It doesn't sound like a good place to stay based on the board comments. Question is, is the environment so toxic that it would be difficult to get a good replacement?

It feels like if he doesn't win the playoff game he's either leaving or getting the boot. Pretty amazing with the record he's compiled.

If he is one and done in the playoffs, it will be the justification needed to let him go.
