Interesting how you claim the only criteria is objective metrics, and then enumerate what “the media” will do. If the choices are objective, what does the media have to do with it? If we go 4-0 we’re a 1 on the merits, full stop. If you think biases and ratings don’t affect outcomes, you’re wrong. I have two friends who have served on the committee at different times, and I can assure you that the room is regularly corrupted by calls from conference chairs, and the TV network is quite literally in the room. I think they’ve progressively gotten better, but it remains far from perfect, and definitely less than pure.
