2024 Official Seed List Watch Party Thread

Right. I think we can all agree we will be in one of these three spots on Selection Sunday:

#1 seed in the West (Arizona as the 2)
#2 seed in the South (Houston as the 1)
#2 seed in the Midwest (Purdue as the 1)

In any of the above scenarios, we will play in Charlotte for the first two rounds.
If we end up being the top 2 seed, I think it’s bs to put us in Houston’s region. I’d rather be put in the west with Zona.

If Zona is the 4th overall seed and we’re the 5th overall seed, you can go ahead and bank on us NOT being in the West region. But I will say this, a lot of people automatically look at Purdue and UConn and say “no thanks put us somewhere else.” Some people might think differently when their team plays Houston where having an uncontested shot attempt is equivalent to winning the lottery.

If TN is number 1 seed it will probably be in the West with Iowa St as number 2.
If TN is number 2 seed then I see us with UConn in the East.

I’m still in the boat of wanting a 1 seed - I think it’s the better path to a F4 by a wide margin. That said, if the seeding holds and bracket matrix is correct on the 7-10 seeds, I like how we matchup with most of the 7 and 10s than the 8 and 9s. Will be interesting to watch the shuffling in those spots over the final 2 weeks and through the conference tourneys. Those mid seeds can flip on their heads from 1-2 weird results.
I saw the same thing in a CBS projection a couple days ago but then if you looked at potential matchups for the Sweet 16 the 1 seed was definitely better as the 3 seed was far tougher than the 4 that was in our projected bracket.

I would rather have that simplistic point of view, instead of playing the blame game on the officials.

Yea I've watched numerous great teams lose, also seen great teams overcome piss poor refs to win .
The officiating is bad in college basketball but as long as the game is called consistently throughout I don’t care. Take the Bama game, for example. The refs definitely missed calls but they didn’t change how they officiated the game from one half to the next so I had no issues there. When the refs swallow their whistle one half then suddenly call everything the next half, disrupting the game flow, it drives me nuts, even if it’s in UT’s favor.

The game has changed tremendously since 1979. Rules, speed, blocking, 3 point line plus many more have changed and players plus coaches made the change but officials have not. It's Ok to say bad officials because there are some. There is no excuse to miss walks, charges, out of bounds or some of the simple missed calls made back in 1979. Tough to be an official and maybe they should put 4 out there instead of 3. I get your point but a foot out of bounds is a foot out of bounds. See previous post especially when there is an official at the point. Teaching point. They don't have to be perfect, but it could cost a better team a game. See Purdue.
I love how charges are way down from a couple years ago. Remember that game at Arkansas a couple years back? Maybe it was even last year. There were like 5 or 6 charges collected by 1 player and maybe 2 were legitimate. Now suddenly players don’t charge anymore? I think not. The NCAA must have decided to change how charges are called. That’s the only explanation if I’m correct. I haven’t seen data to back this up though so maybe my feeling from watching the games is wrong.

The potential sweet 16 matchups for 1 seeds are definitely more desirable. Worst case, you play a 4 or 5 seed - both of which are very prone to first round upsets.

Jaylin Williams. They changed the rules on charging because his sneaking under driving players was downright dangerous to him and the opponents. He still takes a good deal of charges in the NBA, which has different charge/block rules, so he could have adapted all along.

They put you in your natural region once they’ve slotted the #1 seeds. That’s why we’ll likely be in the South if we don’t get the 1. It’s just bad timing that the juggernaut Cougars happen to be the #1 in that region.

I say “likely” because it’s also conceivable we could be in the Midwest, since that regional is in Detroit, which is closer to Knoxville than Dallas.

I agree but the Euro Step addition/change in college has also been a factor with the Charge as well.

Euro step doesn't take any more steps than a regular drive to the hoop, just one of them is sideways. If they had been calling it traveling they'd have to call those drives traveling as well.

Yet DK was called for one at bama that would have been a block last season?

I think UConn and Houston are the best teams this year. I want 0 part of either of them until the final 4.

don't you think that side step is why charges are down.

This has the be the thread filled with the most confusion ever. The concepts must be much harder to grasp than they appear?

Even if you only look at the top-ranked bracketologists, they're pretty much split down the middle on either us or Arizona as the 1 seed.

What are the rules on conference matchups in the tourney again? Don’t they try and avoid top 4 seeds in the same conference playing if possible?

Would love to get the 1 seed then get sdsu as the 4.

Yup, so as things stand on the matrix, Bama & Auburn both a 4, it leaves just Illinois & San Diego State as potential 4’s.
