This is where it’s Biden’s fault for running again, IMO.

Once they kicked him to the curb, the party had to quickly rally behind one person and picking a senator or governor may have opened the door to other senators and governors asking “why not me?” A contested convention would have been a mess.

@Orangeslice13 had this conversation when it happened. He pointed out that she was an awful candidate, and I agreed, but I thought she was the best choice they could make under the circumstances. Circumstances created by Biden leveraging his incumbency to squash the primary field before it got started.

Ironically, I’m not sure he would have done much worse if they had just left him on the ticket. That might be one the worst performances by a Democrat since Mondale.

Another note - it's pretty rich how most of the the mainstream/legacy media just assumed "The integrity of our democracy is the most important issue to me" meant votes for Kamala. People upset about January 6, think the 2020 election was stolen, etc.

They totally missed or just disregarded the possibility of some voters viewing the various legal actions against Trump as politically-motivated lawfare. The exit polling is indicating that depending on the state, folks who said the integrity of our democracy was the biggest issue to them went about 50/50, or even leaned Trump in some areas.

Trump won last night for the same reason he lost in 20: the economy
