Will never win. Literally no one wants this. If y'all want to work until your body gives out, more power to you. If anything, we should be retiring younger, although I do think the current retirement age is about where it should be.

I'd much rather raise the retirement age than raise taxes. Work one more year. If you're a really hard worker you'd have no problem with that. I don't plan to take anything 'till my 70s

Yes, our whole lives we should all just strive to be really hard workers. To make others rich while we work until we aren't even able just so we can survive.

Retire whenever you want. That's up to you but don't let the government determine that for you.

I have worked 40-45 hours a week (yes I know people work at lot more but I have great QOL) since I was 17. I'm almost 35. I invest heavily in retirement, keep my expenses low and plan to retire at 58.5. I own my home and my mortgage is less than most people's car payments nowadays.



They ain't getting me. I'm gonna enjoy the last 30 years of my life......with no work. Just hate it for everyone else who is 30 years old and doesn't even know what a 401k is.

Re: the folks who don't know what a 401K is...that's their problem. It's not a gov't problem. If they can't retire until Social Security tells them to then that's on them

Let's get back to the political problem of FICA. The issue is it's not sustainable and needs a tweak. Once you get down to brass tacks, there's really only two solutions. Push back retirement age (which is a way to reduce reduce benefits) or raise taxes. Conservatives say work harder (longer). Liberals say raise taxes. Where do you stand?

Raise taxes. For me it's a no brainer. Would I rather the government take $10 more out of my paycheck or work 5-10 more years. Working ****ing sucks.

$10 out of a paycheck doesnt do squat.

Say one makes 150K and with 6% company match that is about 18K/year in contribution.
Say you cut out at 57, or 5 years early, that is only 90k in contribution that will be spread over the rest of your life, maybe say they figure 75 year lifespan. So in 13 years, that extra 90K is almost insignificant to your monthly needs.

It is supplemental income, not retirement income.

Heres where I stand: why is the government in the business of taking my money, spending it, and then telling me when I can get some of it back?

While I still wouldn’t like it, it would be a little more palatable if the politicians stuck to the “lockbox” principle they used to sell social security. Instead it’s been perverted into a slush fund for politicians and another way to redistribute income for votes.

The reason we are having to extend the age of retirement and probably cut benefits is bc of government waste. And you want them to have more to waste?
