2024 Recruiting Thread

I still think that N.C. girl knew where she was committing all along. She basically used our resources for a good time. Hope we get the chance to spank them in the coming years.
Happens all the time in football, recruits praise your school then commit to Alabama it's just fun and games to some like you stated most know where they want to go before process starts

I believe that young lady strung us along. Too many visits ( Kellie's home included) not to be playing games. Football budget can afford some game playing.Womens athletics cant..

It is what it always has been....Kids pick coaches, not universities.

If it were the universities that drew the talent,,,, UCON, LSU, Baylor, South Carolina and Tennessee would have never reached the plateau they did/have...Those kids went there to be coached by Geno, Kim, Dawn, Pat, etc.

Its that way in the HS's
Its that way in the AAU/exposure circuit
Its that way in college
The only anomaly is the Pros....Players play where they are drafted, not the location or coach.
Sorry,what exactly has Banghart done???

#3 is complete balderdash. On it's best day. Also a far bigger insult to the recruit and family than anything said previously on this forum. Stop projecting your wannabe fragility on these strong, very experienced families. We (you) have not experienced big time. They have, for years. To say we are more than a gnat on an elephant's ass is just . . . .

in the recruiting game….Highest ever recruit in JP, left after one year. Committed longer than enrolled and it was said would be KH test market to recruits on how she was handled.

Don't know how were standing with DaSilva but she is definitely going to be an elite post player with more experience. Strong looks to be headed to NC State. Koval has an offer don't know if she would be interested in coming south. So unless Da Silva of Portugal is interested in Tennessee we look to be in bad shape for an elite post player for 2024. Not that it still can't be a good class because Boyd is definitely underrated by Hoopgurlz and still a lot of names on the 2024 list that could be coming to Tennessee. Post players though do not look promising in that class and we didn't do anything in the portal for a post player either. Coaches really went all in on Thomas and that has been part of our recruiting problems letting these players come on multiple visits and as a result narrowing our recruiting to much. We did it with two or three players in 2023 as well. I think if you can't get a commit in a couple of visits time to move on to someone else. You can't narrow down on one player to much.

Agree. Whatever the circumstances of the JP situation, fair or unfair to KHJ, it definitely doesn't help.

But nothing a few elite wins won't cure. And we better get them this season while we have the most elite player we've had in a long time

Not sure why any proponent of Courtney Banghart would want to talk about her record. She inherited a team that was tied for 8th in her conference. At the end of her 4th year at NC, her team was tied for 6/7 in conference. Her conference winning percentage is 54.9%.

It’s easy to compare to Kellie, because they both began at their current schools in 2019. Kellie’s teams have been much more successful.

(Holly Warlick’s last team was tied for 8th in conference, her teams had gotten progressively less successful with each season.)

Kellie’s conference winning percentage is 71%. In our 3 conference losses last year, one was to last year’s national champion, one was to this year’s champion. We lost Tamari for this year, and 4 players the year before. We played one of the toughest schedules in the country last year. Kellie and our team have had to overcome a lot of adversity. We beat LSU in the conference tournament this year, and lost to SC in the finals. So far, all of Kellie’s teams have ranked 3rd in conference each year.

Tennessee Lady Volunteers (Southeastern Conference) (2019–present)
2019–20 Tennessee 21–10 10–6 T–3rd Postseason not held due to COVID-19
2020–21 Tennessee 17–8 9–4 3rd NCAA Second Round
2021–22 Tennessee 25–9 11–5 3rd NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2022–23 Tennessee 25–12 14–3 3rd NCAA Sweet Sixteen
Tennessee: 88–39 (.693) 44–18 (.710)

Was trying to fix the spacing of the record, but my tablet wouldn’t do it. Anyway, so far in the 3 playable years of NCAA Tournament, Kellie’s teams have gone to the Second Round, then to the Sweet Sixteen in the 2nd and 3rd years.

Looking forward to really great things from our team this year.

I was saving this from earlier today. Thought it may come in handy…
Payton Gottshall left Bowling Green after her coach Sarah Willis was hired to be the head coach at Bradley. Payton had no intention of entering the portal and then her world was turned upside down. A blessing for Tennessee. Young people like Payton should have the right to change their mind without adults labeling their decision. Bowling Green fans have wished her well.

Texas' softball Coach just reminded us that Tennessee's fan base is one of the classiest in the nation. We all have to work to remind ourselves what grace means.

Harper took over the 2nd best program in the history of women's collegiate basketball--8 national titles. Banghart didn't--UNC has never won a national title in women's basketball. I don't know if they've ever been to the Final Four. Her team came in third in the conference two years ago, fyi.

Harper's teams SHOULD be better--but we choke in big games. Lost to a Va.Tech team we should have beaten--another team with zero tradition.

I wouldn’t say we choke in big games, but we’ve lack the overall talent and athleticism at a few positions to compete in some of those games.

The national titles are old news, boo. We are competing again, okay? We got a museum and some banners hanging in the rafters, I get it. We are seeking to return to that level. Pat would shake her head reading some of yer obnoxious expectations.

UNC went to the final four in 94, 06 and 07 and won the championship in 94

Three reasons jump out at me

1
We started the preseason at #5/#4
by week 4 we were out of the top 25
Our best player was initially benched and was not used as a starter until week 9 or 10
We re-entered the top 25 in week 18
and finished in the round of 16

2
Coach Kellie's presser re changes and roles being more important than starting.
(I honestly believe every coach who recruits against her has this quote framed and ready for display for their recruits)

3
Lets compare our and UNC's (Since Blanca chose them over us) 2024 recruiting fanpages...
(available for recruits, families, players, everybody to read and see!);,,

(TN): 2,984 posts, 120 pages, 398,036 views ,,,Blanca comes into discussion: LadyVols_WBK, Post #489, Jun 13, 2021. . . Now Imagine Blanca/her parents/Coach Banghart relaying/using this later-post by another poster to influence her:

"I have watched Blanca Thomas several times on the AAU scene, she is not offensively aggressive at all. Her defense is ok, she can block smaller players. I watched a few games where she was completely shut down by girls no bigger than 5'10 due to physicality. I mean she is 6'5 so most colleges will be on her simply due to height, imo she doesn't compare to Edward's, strong, Carlton (some of 24 best post). Maybe an Emily Saunders type player, nothing wrong with that at all just giving a comparison of game.

2024 Recruiting (NC): 482 posts; 20 pages, 94,460 views ( The posts read like two gentlemen having coffee) Blanca comes in at a post, posted on May 2nd, 9:36 PM. No pre-posts that I can immediately see. There are 8 following posts about Blanca, no negative posts and nothing said about their coach, good or bad...boring?

This forum isn't the backyard fence. It is available worldwide. And IS read by recruits, players, families, staff and fans. It is a bragging right that TN LV's are the second most active in soc-media postings...It is also our curse

SOme of you, no doubt, will be calling me a "Kellie hater"...Nothing could be further from the truth. I watched her play in 1996 at the SEC women;s tourney and even then she coached on the floor for Pat...I am/was/and still 100% behind the decision for her to coach the LV's. But for her to reach the next level of coaching she will have to have at least one person in her entourage who will tell her to her face the things that are preventing her from reaching the next plateau....And YES, I can be there tomorrow!

1) Now do NC, who finished just behind us in polls, and did not make the SS. If the head to head seasons were compared, since they were essentially the same, it must have been a non-factor.
2) I realize this is an opinion board, but if you think Kellie's presser remarks you mentioned kept her from getting this or any other recruit, can you back that up with evidence? Otherwise, I'm not buying it.
3) Are you telling us on the one hand that some posters' negative reviews of a recruit on this board kept her from coming here, but that your frequest criticisms of Kellie as a coach on this same board had no impact on the same recruit? Look at the one above, for goodness sakes.

But for her to reach the next level of coaching she will have to have at least one person in her entourage who will tell her to her face the things that are preventing her from reaching the next plateau....And YES, I can be there tomorrow!

Coach, I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, but C'MON MAN!! This is just over the top delusions of grandeur. I dare ya to tell Danny White you'd be available for this little task and see what he says to you.

or did we not field the best starting lineup we could have, which would have given them time to gel before playing those end of the season games we lost

Pat would indeed shake her head at the ranking and expectations at the beginning of the season and the collective, "hope we make the tournament" of the last two years.
