2024 Recruiting Thread

Winner's Circle today in early August this thread has 4500 posts and 425000 reviews and while I agree with your recent response you are not accurate when you use the term "dead end" , almost like redundant. When I read that two trillian words were written prior to the NFL draft, it is no surprise that in this warm summer with no active sports ongoing that individuals need to post. and honestly, each year there are truly only the same half dozen themes re recruiting. Enjoy the three or four posters who are active researchers on possibilities. otherwise admit you enjoy arguing, agreeing and disagreeing with other unknown posters and enjoy

I’ve enjoyed my brief stint on here. I’m sure once the season starts it’ll pick up quite a bit. The one place we disagree certainly is my perspective on calling it a dead end. It is accurate due to the fact neither side is going to change the others mind on recruiting at this point.
I do think there’s a way to see it from both sides.
But for some to try to ignore the dominance in portal recruiting these last two years and build up just about any player that doesn’t sign with Tennessee and go silent when those players don’t produce elsewhere is what has destroyed the “poor recruiting” coalition’s agenda and message.

Probably hasn't happened yet. She might have some time now that international play is over. She's big and dominates her age group but is reported to be very slow and hasn't really developed a reliable shot.
She was on campus Friday and Saturday and I believe left on Sunday yet not one Vol writer/sports analyst or anyone else has any info on the visit .

What happens with our negative people is that when Kellie starts recruiting five star players and getting same out of the portal then the argument is that they are not Tennessee kids. I guess you can always argue something whether it makes any sense of not.
The lady vols have never had an abundance of Tennessee homegrown kids on their championship teams or at least they weren't the stars of those teams. Look at the teams that have won national titles and where the stars of those teams came from. Michigan, New York, Indiana and Chicago come to mind. Candace, Shannon Bobbit, Nikki Anosike, Holdsclaw, Tonya Edwards, Deadra Charles, Dena Head, Tamika Catchings, Peggy Evans, Abby Conkin. Of Course, Pat Had the Nikki's who were both from Tennessee in the mid 90's, but did Mccray get a national championship with Tennessee? I don't think so. Caldwell did as a freshman but I believe their all-American that year was Dena Head from Canton Michigan. There were a number of players from Tennessee on those early championship teams, but they were not the stars of those teams either. As Pat moved to the turn of the Century, most of her recruits were from out of state so that she could get the best talent available.

Championship or not McCray was top tier talent.

Yes she was, but she was one of the rare Home Grown Tennessee talents that was a star for the Lady Vols and her teams didn't win a national championship. Most of the All-American talent that were on teams that won national championships came from the states I mentioned in my previous posts.

Great post. For the two trillianth time, certain things are stipulated when you register and participate in sports fan forums. It's baked in the cake that dead ends are going to be chewed over endlessly and dead horses beaten mercilessly. Especially in the off season. We're all here bc no one in our real life wants to hear all this as much as we want to talk about it. Also stipulated is that most of the time we're bloviating about things we don't know as much about as we think we do.

I suppose the other thing that's stipulated is the posters who are going to try to point all this out as if we didn't already know it and magically cause us all to confess our sins and change our ways. Not happening.

The coaches can not and do not make comments .What I am talking about is the pundits that cover the team recruiting .
Cora hasn't been very active lately. Maybe on vacay, I'm guessing in Columbia So Carolina at the temple of her fave, Dawn.

Everyone is entitled to their fave, and no one is required to be a fan of the team they cover. In fact, it probably helps not to be. But man, Cora's worshipful love of all thing SC is bordering on the comical.

And ole Maria is off doing Maria things I guess.

I thought i was one of the few who saw this... Isn't Cora from SC or she went there ...

True but those teams were pretty stacked.

As one of our wise church elders who is no longer with us was fond of saying, "Where there's life, there's hope."

Stay strong and when Ace drops that first double double I’ll be thinking of you.

Wow, I thought I was alone in thinking that Cora's love and preference of the Gamecocks was glaring. While I get she doesn't have to be a UT fan, I find it extremely odd that she reports in a market where she expresses her admiration of a rival so much. I don't see any other writers men or women's side doing that. Some of her articles are also slanted at almost being anti UT.

As the other poster noted, the lack of coverage/interest in recruiting is astonishing and nothing like a decade or two ago. And with social media, it is far, far more widely covered today for football and men’s basketball even though UT football wasn’t relevant either for years before last season. 🤷

Maria has not been all that active in recruiting the last two years.I have known her now for nigh on 20 years and back in the old days with Scout she had her fingers pretty deep into recruiting .Now days she has no fingers in the recruiting pot....except after the fact data/info has been released either by the school or some other media outlet.

In today's day and age, if you share how visits went, you are giving Intel to other schools.

Maybe I'm the odd one that I'd rather our recruiting not be advertised.

Good to have another perspective ......look at what that type of thinking has provided in the way signing of high school recruits the last two years......if my math is correct that number is ZERO .

Also know that once a school learns what you are doing and esp in the NIl world, they will pay you in NIL money. Don't think some kids weren't coming in here until crazy promises were made to them last minute to sweet them away. People don't have to believe any of my insight here, but know that receuiting in the women's basketball world has become something we've never wanted to see for many top tier athletes. One thing UT isn't going to do is make empty promises just to get in a recruit. There are many reason why so many go into the portal. And one of those is making empty promises. It's also not zero like so many keep saying.

Since we know very, very little about what is going on with Lady Vol recruiting ,your conclusions appear to me to be at best inconclusive and at worst totally wrong.
