"It was great to talk to the coaches," McCarty said on the Yellowjackets. "I got to know them more and I really like the program. I like the new head coach. I feel they are on the rise and it is a good option for me."

Houston: "I want to refresh my eyes since it has been a long time since I took the last official visit. I want to go back down there and learn some more information about the program. I want to see if the style of play fits me. Kelvin Sampson plays with freedom so I want to see what it is about.

Oklahoma: "I really like Porter Moser. He was a great coach at Loyola-Chicago and I feel he is going to do great things in Norman. He wants me really bad and I want to see what he has to say."

Tennessee: "The coaching staff is really energetic. I really like Rick Barnes and Gregg Polinski and their play style. The school is right around home so I would not have to go far.

McCarty says his list cut will be released within the next 2-3 weeks. He added that he plans on committing to a program prior to the start of his senior season.

I'm not bashing Coach Barnes as he has proven adept at identifying talent, but a bit surprised we don't have any higher rated recruits on our radar at the moment. I am not necessarily in favor of focusing on top ten likely one and done talent, but it seems like the last few years we have had a lot of top 40 type guys coming in.

I do recognize things can change quickly in the coming months.

I mean looking at Top 40 vs. Top 75 is really splitting hairs imo, it’s not like a difference between Top 5 and a guy ranked 150.

I really like coach RB recruiting the 40th to 80 th ranked players. For they will be around more than one year unlike Kentucky where there is a revolving door every year. BTW how many titles has Kentucky won with all those 5 stars every year. I know of 1' and without AD wouldn't have won that one...

Recruiting seems to be slow and it seems we are out of the running for elite high school talent for 2024.

I haven't evaluated the roster to know the needs for next year but with the success we've had the last 5 - 6 years I would've expected more diamonds.

Our staff will identify good players that fill a niche though.

Yeah Kentucky is a revolving door of mercenaries and Calipari being able to say how many he has in the league.

I think that it’s a great approach to put a high priority on signing high character young men as well. The culture around the program is much like what Pat Summitt was doing and she was as good at building rosters as any coach in any sport. I’ll gladly pass on the top 5-star players if they might be disruptive to the team. I couldn’t be happier than when the core of the rosters are the Grants. The JJJs. The Admirals. The Fulkersons. The Santiagos.

Agree: The 5-star one-and-done is a waste of recruiting effort and coaching time. Hell, they arrive, don't play that well in many cases--as no matter their talent, they're still freshmen adjusting to a higher level of P5 play---but leave/get drafted after one season anyway, Philips being example number one. It's nice to land them, but if they don't stay at least 2 years it's almost always a waste of time unless the stars really align, and that's rare. Yea, see Cal. I don't now he doesn't it every year, seeing the 5 stars come and go and come and go. Can't be very rewarding as a coach. And are you giving them NIL money as well? If so, why? Add waste of money to waste of recruiting effort and waste of coaching time.
