A 6-foot-6 motored-up power forward out of Las Vegas (Nev.) Compton will take an official visit to San Diego State this weekend.
Iowa: "Even though they offered me in May, they have stayed in contact since then. Their coaches tell me that they like what they have been seeing. They compare me to some of their past players."
LSU: "They offered me during the early part of last year. I have been talking to them ever since and all of their coaches make sure to reach out to me. They contact me and that is important to me."
Tennessee: "After they offered, they have been in good contact. I have been liking what their coaches have been saying to me. They think I can fit into their program, produce for them, and play good minutes. They like my play style and they feel it fits with how they play right now."
Compton says his top list of schools will not be announced until next week. However, he is unsure of a timeline on a decision but he is thinking about announcing a final decision before the season begins in November.
Definitely got to target Boswell. Need to connect on a PG in this recruiting cycle.Definitely feels like the staff has found and really likes 3 players at 3 different positions in this class and that they’ll stick with going all in on just those 3 for the fall and see where the chips land.
Bishop Boswell - Myers Park - PG
Chase McCarty - Westminster Christian Academy - SF
Pharaoh Compton - Arbor View - PF
"I had a really good time," McCarty told GoVols247 on Sunday night following his official visit. "It was great."
"I definitely learned way more about their program and their style of play," McCarty said. "Breaking down their style of play, how their style of play fits me, why it's the right school for me. They were just explaining the reason they believe I should come to Tennessee and I see now how they can use me in their offense and how I can help replace the players they're going to be losing, or at least help them. It was great to see and hear what all they had to tell me."
"I'm a shooting guard or shooter or whatever, so they sat me down and said they run a lot of systems, and I'm a system-player, so they showed me where (Santiago) Vescovi is, and like how he's used on their pindowns, curls, really just reads and stuff," McCarty explained. "I really liked what they showed me.
"I'm really like a two, three and a four. I can play whatever and I can guard one through five. It doesn't really matter what position I'm listed as. Wing is wing."
"I didn't realize Coach Barnes was that funny," McCarty said. "I would never know he had that type of personality, but we sat down and ate lunch with him, and dinner, and it was great to see that other side of him. And he has some great, hilarious assistant coaches as well.
"Coach (Rod) Clark, we were choppin' it up at breakfast — I just feel like they hire funny coaches. They just all have this sense of humor that is unmatched. You can't even eat your food because you're laughing so much. But they're all great people, all great coaches. I can definitely see the vision that they have for me if I choose to go there."
