I'm not really sure why DJ is allowed to stay at this point. Schollys are a precious commodity and keeping someone on one who can't get out of their own way doesn't seem like the best use of it.

I guess you're using Schofield as the comp because he was in Barnes' doghouse for a while. But he averaged 19mpg / 8ppg his first 2 seasons. If people were calling for him to be forced out during that time when we had little talent on the roster, then they were being silly. DJ, on the other hand, has logged 3 total minutes in 2 seasons. I'm not saying he should be forced out, but this doesn't feel similar to Schofield.

I think the fact DJ hasn’t entered yet tells you what both Stoerner and I said, many thought he was already gone to the portal a month into the season, not the case. He loves it here and wants to be here, he dug himself a hole and had to deal with the consequences, he very well may find himself on next years roster. I think as of now everyone is “favored” to return, with that said you never know what 1 phone call can do and change things, giving the odds I’m sure we will see another entry at least, but right now I feel that everyone is leaning to return.

Does this include FD who’s in the portal? Is he considering withdrawing from the portal and staying?

Schofield also had to play out of necessity like you said. DJ plays a position in which we have been loaded at since he has been here. Who was he taking minutes away from?

Am I the only one who doesn't understand where the playing time minutes will come from? Who is going to be relegated to the bench? We have 4 bigs already on the roster. If Awaka, Estrella or Phillips don't play significant minutes I have to believe we will lose them. ZZ of course gets his minutes. We have Gainy, JM, Cam and maybe DJ to fill the 2 and 3 positions. I feel like JM has earned the minutes and Cam is gone if he doesn't get significant playing time. If we add 3 more portal guys, I assume they will get significant minutes. So whose minutes will be dramatically reduced?

Maybe Cade will red shirt this season since that was the plan for this year? He has the appearance of needing time to mature and add weight. Just a thought as I know nothing

I’m just making the point that fans often decide when to give up on a player, and are wrong. If DJ is here next year instead of a portal player, I’ll trust that decision.

We have 4 spots open as of now. Hopefully Awaka stays put and we don't lose anyone else, filling 4 spots in the portal is going to be a pretty big challenge. Any HS players still available that we're thinking about?

Sad to see DJ go, but not surprised. I really wanted him to succeed here, but I can understand him wanting to go somewhere with an immediate path to playing time next year.

Still, I hate how much roster turnover we see every year now. Feels like a tall task to go grab 4 guys in the portal worth giving a scholarship.

To be fair anyone could have Guessed DJ was gone, Freddie shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone as well. Tobe would be a big Shock to me though

I'm always a "when they enter, I believe it" guy on transfers though. So I'm not saying anyone else is going, but Awaka is the only other name that's popped up as a "worry"

Yeah I agree.

You can probably make due with ZZ/Gainey/Boswell running PG minutes, but that looks rough if ZZ goes down at any point.
I don't want Awaka to go, but I think a rotation of Aidoo, Estrella, and Phillips is strong than ZZ, Gainey, and Boswell.

I'd trade a PG for a C I think...

Not surprising really, but was starting to believe he may stick around since he didn't jump into the portal quickly.

I get that and I’m not saying that to argue with you… but wouldn’t someone random saying they’re worried about something happening just be speculation?

These decisions aren't always the players' to make, either. DJ may have wanted to be here and the staff didn't believe he could live up to his end of the bargain. He could have also wanted to be here, but not risk things if he had a zero tolerance policy going forward. Lots of potential moving parts in that tenuous situation.
