2024 Transfer Portal Thread

Not sure who’s got an On3 sub but they’re doing intel updates and mention Dailey, not sure if they mention Tennessee with him or any others in the article.

Someone sell me on Tyson..keep in mind my issue is that against teams like Drake (which are upper mid majors) and of course AZ hr didnt perform well amd shot under 40% with 0 3pts made...how does that translate to SEC...seems more like a short Pember type to me

In 41 of his 61 games playing he's shot 33% or better from 3PT.
In 48 of his 61 games playing he's shot 40% or better from 2PT.
He's only shot under 30% from FG in 7 games for his career

He has scored at least 10 points in 50 of his 61 games

His 183 rebounds on the year would have been 3rd best on the Vols
His 503 points on the year would have been 2nd best on the Vols
His 49.3% FG would have put him 3rd best on the team behind only Awaka and Aidoo
His 357 FGAs though would have been 2nd best on the team behind only DK
His 176 FG makes would have been 2nd best on the team behind only DK
He hit 80 3s just 13 less than DK, which would have put him 2nd best on the team
His 46.5% from deep would have lead the team
Only Gainey shot a higher % from the FT line than Tyson

He is actually a better deep ball shooter than DK with a bit more size. The biggest question is how athletic/explosive is he and can he pickup and play defense at a high enough level to play good minutes here.

Tyson and Lanier both basically 50/40/90 guys on pretty good volume. Thomas is also much more efficient than I thought at 30% usage, and you’d think the 3P ceiling is higher than the current 33% as an almost 90% FT shooter.

Adding a couple of those would add so much balance to the offense.

I think Lanier is a take without question... then you have a few choices to make. Dubar, Thomas or Tyson...if by some miracle all 3 want to come here I still think we'd only take 2 of them.

Not saying Lanier is better than the others, but his skillset and position is a different role that I'm not sure those other 3 can fill.

Now if you can get the 3 big wings then maybe the role Lanier would fill will default to Gainey, Carr, or Mashack...which could be pretty nice if that means you have 2 spots on the floor for Dubar/Thomas/Tyson to play.

Just need to start landing some guys so we can speculate lineups lol

Cause right now I'm going full @TrippieRedd HARD for this lineup

ZZ
Mashack
Tyson OR Dubar
Thomas
Aidoo OR Awaka

I’ll believe Tyson comes when I see it. He is from NC and has offers from both UNC and Duke.

Appreciate your breakdown...now would you say the conference he plays in would be comparable to the SEC??? I brought up Drake and AZ because they are the better team on his schedule..even against Indiana state he only had 1 decent game...so when your battling top 15 teams every game, has he shown he can play at that level...I dont see it....even Gainey put up better numbers against Power ,5 teams

I personally am starting to like the small ball lineup of
ZZ
Lanier
Shack
Tyson or Thomas
Dubar

Not happening, but it would be a fun one

Is that the team right now? 5 open spots? Really wish we would've gotten more than 1 HS guy this cycle.

Have been some rumblings that we may take a project HS guy late.

I wonder if we go after Jalen Shelley the Arkansas decommit . We offered him this cycle and he played for Link Academy.

I don’t think he would demand immediate playing time. Top 100 guy

We better it's making for a hell of a 2025 cycle depending on who we get in the portal. Say we take 3 seniors and an underclassman. That leaves you with 3 transfer seniors, Aidoo, Mashack, ZZ, Gainey all gone the following year.

I mean hell man, was the Big Sky comparable? I'm not saying Tyson is going to replicate what Knecht did or anything... but he's dominated his conference in 2 years at Belmont and MVC should have had 2 teams in the NCAA this year (Indiana State got robbed).

What I can say is that 6'7" and 200lbs translates to every conference, as does being a good shooter. Will he see the same sort of % in the SEC or ACC, probably not...but he'll still knock down plenty of open looks either way.

The bold is the issue, you've already made your mind up on the kid. But I promise you, UNC, Duke, Tennessee and all the other top tier schools pursuing Tyson are far better basketball evaluators than you or me.

Quite a few HS players are still unsigned so we may add another HS guy or 2 with the number of spots we have available.

We would have to flip a few as they are committed, but here's a quick list of the top rated players (on3 ratings) that aren't signed yet

3: Dylan Harper, CG, 6'5" - Rutgers commit
4: VJ Edgecombe, SG, 6'4" - Baylor commit (has offer from UT)
7: Khaman Maluach, C, 7'2" - Duke commit
15: Liam McNeeley, SF, 6'7" - uncommitted (Kansas/Indiana top 2 projected)
16: Derik Queen, C, 6'9" - Maryland commit
17: Bryson Tucker, SF, 6'7" - Indiana commit
20: Joson Sanon, SG, 6'5" - Arizona commit
21: Karter Knox, SF, 6'6" - uncommitted (Kentucky/Louisville top 2 projected)
24: Billy Richmond, SF, 6'6" - Kentucky commit (may follow Cal to Arkansas now, but he's a Memphis kid so we might be an option now)
30: Khani Rooths, SF, 6'8" - uncommitted (Georgia/VA Tech top 2 projected)
34: Zoom Diallo, PG, 6'3" - Washington commit
41: Trent Perry, PG, 6'4" - uncommitted (USC/Colorado top 2 projected)
46: Isaiah Elohim, SG, 6'5" - uncommitted (Arkansas/Villanova top 2 projected)

That's just in the top 50, tons of HS kids still unsigned and available.

A few that we offered who are still unsigned.

KJ Greene, PG, 6'2" (UCF & South Carolina top 2)
Doryan Onwuchekwa, C, 6'10" (GA Tech commit)
TJ Williams, SG, 6'4" (Wichita State commit)
Jalen Shelley, SF, 6'8" (uncommitted, Arkansas/Louisville top 2)
