2024 WNBA Discussion Thread

I mean they still count for 2 points. It's never going to be visually pleasing with Angel; hell it's not even logically understandable. But she by God gets it done.

Right, which is fine. But I’m very tired of people throwing her name around like she’s good.

She is only marginally relevant due to her loose association with Clark.

Disregarding Angel's numbers is like disregarding CC's attendance numbers. It may not be our cup of tea, but the numbers don't lie in either case.

Angel doesn't have any more raw ability than she had in college. But what she does have has translated to the W far more effectively than I ever thought possible. Her motor and relentlessness have been incredible. Helps that she landed in exactly the right situation where she's always been allowed to play thru bad shooting and turnovers.

Angel will never be a smooth, polshed baller that's visually pleasing to watch. But she's the epitomy of a blue collar, do more with less grinder. And has record numbers to show for it.

She is a double-double machine (and averaging 10 rebounds a game) and generally a good defender (unless she gets too emotionally ramped up and makes a dumb play). Going to the opposite extreme end- "she is not any good"--is no less of a BS take than over hyping her.

Weird game. Maybe the post Cam Brink strategy is tanking, esp against better teams. All the reserves played more than all the starters they back up. Worked well for Rae who played alot and continuosly, had 11 pts, 4 rebs, 4 assist. Rickea hit two really nice shots early and looked in good rhythm. Then sat nearly all the second qtr and most of the 4th, played only 20 sportic mins. Had 6 pts. Kia Nurse started hot also, first time in a long time, then never went back in after the first quarter. When Zia Cooke and Steph Talbot are getting the big mins, it's not normal substitution. Even Hamby played less than usual and only had 9 pts. They did pull fairly close a couple of times against the Liberty subs, one thing about the Sparks, they never quit.

Same teams Saturday, we'll see how the Sparks approach that game.

Reese set a new WNBA record by becoming the first rookie in history to record seven consecutive double-doubles. She set the record with a monster game against the wings, 16 points and 18 rebounds.

Her rookie stat line puts her in elite company and there is now a serious race for rookie of the year with Clark.

However, social media is all over a twitter clip of Reese's steal and breakaway lay-up against the Wings. She appeared to double dribble three, maybe four times en route to the basket. Not trying to take away from her game but that was an extreme "no call." The situation is magnified by Angel's comment that some people (aka Caitlin Clark) get a special whistle and here she is getting the full LeBron treatment!

SOMEONE TAKE HER MIC she at it again.

Im sorry lol. I love a gospel singer but she is not in a good key here either.

Thinks she’s Tasha Cobb but God ain’t bless those pipes quite right.

W just embarrassing sometimes. You HAVE to call a travel when a player falls down like Gray just did. Even she was confused lol.

Just call the rules. It’s not hard, I don’t get it.

Just said Wright yelled at the Dream in the huddle to quit worrying about the refs and get their heads in the game. It's a vicious cycle w the inept refs and the mouthy players. I really hope the league will tighten up on both. I'm afraid the mouthiness is part of the W's narrative that it's just women being "passionate".

Why has sports officiating across the board got so bad? Is it just that we see it more with replay and twitter clips? Why can't leagues improve their refs? Games have gotten so fast and athletes are so big and strong maybe it can't be adequately officiated any more.

I missed the anthem, sounds like that's a blessing. And that was the high point of the night for Atlanta.

Ref right now allowing looonnnnggg beef session fm Boston. They just have to tighten up, both on that and on the "phsicality".

Dream wo Howard is just dreadful.

Uncalled double dribbles still give me gas pains.

Once again, the level of physical awkwardness is astounding for a player with the numbers Angel puts up.

Angel is apparently upset again w her every word being magnified, understandably. Sent well wishes to Brink and got a timeline full of race hate in return. Said she's keeping all answers short and sweet now. I couldn't agree more, please, please say less. Not trying to stop her being "authenically her", just think for God's sake log off and drop back just for a little while.

I am with you on the ref thing,,,it's not as if it isn't happening all the time. But for it to become an issue, the right people have to make it a focus,,,and more often than not, the benefactors of bad calls are elite players and elite orgs,,,so why would they complain

Agree with the last statement too,,,it is the only time the entire arena(s) are on the same page and in the same mindset. Hopefully that doesn't go the way of "In God We Trust"

Don’t be ridiculous.

Reese is shooting under 40% from around the rim. Drops to below 20% from beyond 4’. That is disgustingly bad. You can’t just hammer the ball off the glass and rebound your own misses then run your mouth like you did something lol. She sets the sport back.

That’s why Twitter is lighting her up. It’s flipping embarrassing. She’s a professional athlete and double dribble twice (at least) in one possession with no call.

On top of her “special whistle” (which was about Boston and not Clark imo) comment the other day she was bound to get flamed. She walks right into it everytime and then cries. It’s really immature.

Minus the everything else factor, I'll bet you'd celebrate Angel as a scrappy, never quit, blue collar American hero who overcomes obvious limitations. Does the thing her way and never, ever quits. The epitomy of doing more with less just by sheer relentlessness and determination. Hell I'm about to shed a tear and buy a tee shirt.

I actually don't see a reason for the national anthem at a sporting event. Maybe special occasion like Veteran's Day or something, but I don't understand the relevance otherwise.

That said, the LVs usually manage to come up with some impressive performances of that difficult song.
