I really do... just hope he has a growth spurt super soon....But there have been shorter guys get the job done at the highest levels.@pimo1 rejoices
Given the number of scholarship players a program can have, you need some guys that understand they probably won't play this year but can be good practice guys. Maybe they transfer out after a year but maybe Coach Barnes likes what he sees and encourages him to stick around. With the Portal or Top Tier HS players only approach. I don't necessarily think it's a talent method, but more of a preventative nature / Defense mechanism...
For example why bring in a lower ranked HS kid who may have potential, but in our case with CRB high standards (positive thing) wont likely play much just to turn around and enter the portal a year later.
Where when you target portal and top 50 players more likely immediate impact, and CBB it is more year to year team building than program building.
Hopefully that made sense
-VQTennessee will host its first official visitor of the fall this weekend with four-star small forward Donte Allen, the No. 77 ranked player in the 2025 class in the on3 industry composite rankings.
Allen just emerged as a target this summer as Tennessee’s staff had ample opportunity to watch him in action. Allen was a summer teammate of five-star Tennessee target Caleb Wilson, who the Vols’ staff stalked all summer.
Allen attends the elite Montverde Academy in Florida and his father, Malik, is an assistant coach with the Miami Heat. Allen also has visits set to Villanova and Notre Dame.
Next weekend for the home opener against Chattanooga Tennessee will host three-star shooting guard Amari Evans.
Evans has previously taken an official visit to Pittsburgh and saw Tennessee unofficially last year.
Evans also has visits set to Ole Miss, TCU and Xavier.
Had a chance to catch up with Malik Allen following his official visit.
seemed like Tennessee really surprised him in a good way on the visit.
Most think that Villanova is the team to beat, and that may end up being the case, but the Vol’s definitely made a strong impression.
has already visited Notre Dame, has trips left to Georgia and Nova.
They hired Grant Ramey who did that at 247 but now seems to be lacking at VQ, makes me think it’s coming from Hubbs and that he’s not pushing them for basketball stuff.Volquest needs to hire a guy that focuses SOLELY on basketball recruiting.
I enjoy basketball recruiting news the most followed by baseball and football.
We did not have a football squad at Hiwassee College.
