'22 SC SF Julian Phillips (Tennessee commit)

The important piece for next Fall is simply keeping this team together and finding a legit 3/4 that complements JJJ and can score. That is Julian Phillips. I'm fairly confident that BHH and Aidoo can develop the type of post presence we need to win games when shots aren't falling. Julian is the exact type of athletic, long wing/forward combo that teams like Michigan and Texas Tech have that gave us major trouble this year. We need more of that.

I think Chandler’s for sure on to greener and possibly JJJ. Bailey leaves and Diboundje may follow Schwarz.
Chandler makes sense, and of course, we all expect him to go.

I floated the idea of Bailey leaving months ago, so that one wouldn't surprise me. His lack of participation during Senior Day activities clouds that just a little, but I still think he likely leaves.

The other two would be really surprising.

JJJ really has nowhere to go unless he's just unhappy at Tennessee, which doesn't seem to be the case, at all, or he wants to go overseas. The NBA probably likes his game, but not enough to be drafted in the 1st round, and maybe not at all, yet. He cannot finish at the rim despite being 6-6 and built like a Roman gladiator. That needs to be his next, and last developmental skill at the collegiate level.

Diboundje has a lot of upside, untapped potential. They limited his minutes throughout the season in hopes of preserving his eligibility for a "redshirt" under the presumed new rules for a reason, I believe. If be surprised to see him bolt so quickly to take a significant step down, and I'd be surprised to see Schwartz actively pursue him unless he had already made up his mind that he was leaving.

Don’t be surprised if Powell isn’t here, I know I shot down that idea before because of already using his transfer but he supposedly has a pro offer overseas. Not a done deal but it’s on the table.
Wow, that is shocking that he'd choose that route. Can't imagine where that offer would be, and that he'd give up a college education to pursue it. That is an interesting development. What in the world would any pro team have seen to offer him a spot on their roster?

We have 14 today, 13 is the limit, Fulk is gone gets you to 13 and Edwards coming in puts you back to 14…

Chandler, Bailey & Powell would seem to be the 3 most likely possibilities for departures, 1 of these HAS to happen to bring in Edwards. 2 for Phillips.

I was surprised to hear it too, not sure if his family has some ties to pro league ball or what…I know he bounced around like crazy to schools which when we took him we all dismissed for good reasons but maybe he just has a hard time staying somewhere?

That’s… odd, but if we keep Kennedy and get Phillips and have to lose Bailey and Powell I’ll take it

It was brought up when he transferred here that he’s been bounced around a lot beginning in HS

That's wild. Yeah, he bounced around in HS, but there were legitimate circumstances surrounding those moves. He's been at 6 schools in 6 years between HS and college, now (Trinity, North Oldham, IMG, North Oldham, Auburn, Tennessee). Just odd that he can't get settled in, if this is indeed true. And even more strange that he'd have pro ball as a current option. I just hope he's not seriously considering playing pro ball in Siberia for $35000, or something like that.

Was told it was Australia which is obviously some decent living, not sure on salary, I’m sure not huge but still wouldn’t be middle of some 3rd world place.

i wouldn’t mind seeing one of JM or QD leaving, but i feel like could develop pretty good before leaving Tennessee.

I think best case scenario would be Chandler stays, Bailey & Powell go, you bring in Edwards & Phillips. The only question for that team is how much can your posts develop so that you’ve got options down there and consistent play/scoring. ON returning would be a nice boost to that group and some progress from BHH/Aidoo and that group should be fine imo.

Good grief...that makes it even more puzzling. Certainly better than some random eastern european country. Don't most of these pro leagues also restrict the number of foreign players they can have on their rosters? Who is going to waste a roster spot on Justin Powell knowing what we know about him? That is insane.

Ya got me, just passing it along.

I think Bailey will leave. Barnes comments after senior day was very respectful, almost like he expects VBJ to find somewhere he can play a bigger role. Bailey has some skills and could develop to make some money in Europe, etc. He needs to play more but its not gonna happen at Tennessee

I agree. I fully expect him to be gone and have for a while (since around the Nova game when his minutes dropped , significantly). Just thought it was interesting that he didn't want his moment in the sun as a senior having put in three years of work at Tennessee.

^^^This concerning JJJ^^^

When shots aren't falling, you need someone that can attack the rack and score, get fouled, make free throws, etc. A scoring drought buster or manufacturer of points if you will.

I'd take a Bailey/Powell swap for Phillips/Edwards 10 times out of 10 if it meant Chandler is staying. But, I've wracked my brain the past few days and cannot find one legitimate reason to hope that occurs. His draft stock is what it is but when you take into account potential for injury, quicker time to 2nd contract, 24/7 development in NBA, no class, better sponsorship opportunities, etc. It all just adds up to think that as long as he gets drafted somewhere he is going. These things just don't tend to work out in the opposite direction very often.

Good luck to the kid. He's a good shooter but needs a lot of work in other areas.

It comes down to what KC wants, I respect him in whatever he does but if he comes back and leads us to a championship then he will be a legend here.

Pretty sure Bailey leaving doesn't help us with numbers because he wouldn't count against us next year anyway. Him staying or leaving is irrelevant numbers wise.

The scholarship limit was just waived for this basketball season. It goes back to a hard 13 scholarship limit next year, so Bailey would count toward the 13.
