Pelosi Pushes Manchin: Speaker puts paid leave back in Biden $1.75T spending bill

Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday put paid family leave back in the House of Representatives’ version of President Biden’s $1.75 trillion social spending bill in response to Sen. Joe Manchin’s opposition to the provision.

Pelosi (D-Calif.) appeared to drop the gauntlet at the feet of Manchin (D-WV), telling members of her caucus that while she initially planned to move forward with a bill that could pass both chambers without being amended, she has decided to alter course and ramp up pressure on the upper chamber.

The provision is expected to call for four weeks of paid family leave, a senior Democratic aide confirmed to The Post.

Pelosi pushes Manchin: Speaker puts paid leave back in Biden bill

Interesting after Pelosi received this from 5 D House members

A group of five moderate lawmakers - enough to potentially sink a bill in the closely divided House - wrote in a letter to Pelosi on Tuesday that they could not back the reconciliation bill without an estimate of how it would affect the budget and at least 72 hours to review it.
It is not clear when the budget scores by the Congressional Budget Office or the Joint Committee on Taxation would be ready. Such demands, if accepted by the speaker, would mean it would be impossible to pass the legislation in the House this week.

Also interesting that the repeal of the SALT limits will make the budget impact worse AND requires Dems voting to lower taxes on the rich.

Tripling down
Probably bitter about last night

I believe they have seriously pissed him off at this point and made a major miss calculation.

WV has went further right in the past decade and climate change is something most don’t want to hear as it means lost coal and natural gad jobs for them.

They are playing chicken with the wrong guy.

meh, we'll see. I hope he holds ground but I'm not holding my breath.

Holding out hope. One is in a very red state, the other mostly red. I assume they can read the room (constituency) on this, but…it is DC.
The fact of the matter is that Sinema could really set herself up for a long congressional career if she holds firm on these bills as well as any other flaming liberal crap the Democrats throw at the wall. If she caves on these bills, she'll be toast.

'This is the Duchess of Sussex': Meghan Markle is now cold calling Republican Senators on their PRIVATE numbers and using her royal title to lobby for paid paternity leave: Wants to be part of a 'working group' to formulate policy

Meghan Markle has called two Republican senators on their private numbers and used her royal title to urge them to vote in favor of paid parental leave, it emerged on Wednesday - shocking the politicians with her latest foray into political activism.

The move is just the beginning for the Los Angeles-born mother of two, as she is now hoping to be part of 'a working group to work on paid leave long term,' according to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

She called Republican Sens. Susan Collins from Maine and Shelley Moore Capito from West Virginia, both of whom said they were shocked that Markle called out of the blue and noted that she even used her royal title to lobby for the cause.

I thought Megs and her wimp of a husband abolished all ties to the royal family? Or did they just decide they wanted to live in LA and use the titles to make money?

House Democrats aim for Thursday vote on social spending package

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Democrats are aiming to vote on their social spending package later Thursday, with a Friday vote on the Senate-passed bipartisan infrastructure bill, as they race to break an impasse on President Biden’s stalled domestic agenda.

The votes would come just two days after Democrats lost the race for governor in Virginia, where the party hadn’t come up short in a statewide race since 2009. Democratic New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy also only narrowly hung onto his seat in a race that wasn’t expected to be as competitive.

Pelosi Prepares to Send Her Most Vulnerable Members to the Slaughter

The speaker appears determined to proceed to a vote on the ‘Build Back Better’ agenda, putting moderate House Democrats in grave political danger.

he Associated Press reports that, unchastised by Tuesday night’s rout, Nancy Pelosi plans to ready the House of Representatives for a “debate and vote on a revised draft of President Joe Biden’s now-$1.85 trillion domestic policy package.” The decision, the AP suggests, is intended to “show voters the party can deliver on its priorities.”

That’s one way of putting it, certainly. Another might be: Nancy Pelosi hopes to appease the progressive wing of her caucus by sending her most vulnerable members unarmed into the Somme.

It's humorous that she actually thinks she has any clout.

Biden's massive spending spree STALLED by Democratic allies pushing back on far-left demands

Pelosi does NOT appear to have the votes to move Democrats' reconciliation bill this week

Top House Democrats are scrambling to get their caucus to vote for their reconciliation spending bill and the bipartisan infrastructure bill as early as this week – but a major roadblock will be a group of moderates who earlier this week demanded to see a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score for the bill.

"While there has been progress to address some of his concerns, there remain significant issues he is still working to address in the substance of the bill," Nick Zeller, a spokesman for Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine, who is one of those moderates, told Fox News Thursday. "That is in addition to the conditions he laid out earlier this week… around a CBO score, time to review, and pre-conferencing. I think you’ll agree those conditions have not been met."

Golden laid out those conditions in a Tuesday letter he co-signed with Reps. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., Kurt Schrader, D-Ore., and Ed Case, D-Hawaii. Specifically, the members asked for 72 hours to review the final bill text before any vote, official scoring to reveal the "true cost of the legislation," and an agreement with the Senate on the content of the bill before any vote.

Democrats' spending bill could give four weeks of paid leave to people without jobs

The latest version of the House Democrats’ massive $1.7 trillion reconciliation bill contains a provision guaranteeing four weeks of federal paid medical and family leave, even if you’re unemployed.

The provision in question is buried deep in the Build Back Better Act as Democrats desperately try to get legislation across the finish line after a GOP trouncing at the polls on Tuesday.

NO FREAKING KIDDING! She's never had the votes.

This is the really funny statement from that article: "Specifically, the members asked for 72 hours to review the final bill text before any vote, official scoring to reveal the "true cost of the legislation," and an agreement with the Senate on the content of the bill before any vote."

House Democrats don't want to vote for this monstrosity only to see Manchin and Sinema torpedo this disaster in the Senate. Not only has Pelosi not secured the votes needed, she's losing ground. Meanwhile, the socialist twits in her party keep dumping more pork in the bill.

Can anyone explain the concept to me of paid medical and family leave for unemployed people? What are they taking leave of? Their minds? No. That's just the socialist congressmen.

There are democrats in the House who fear being defeated in 2022 if they vote with The Squad and Pelosi. The delays on voting on the bills are becoming too numerous to keep track off.
