3rd down for WHAT??!!

At least we sort of know what you are talking about. Does the band play it? Does the original recording play on the loudspeaker? No, don't try to tell me. It might be too hard.

Watch volleygirl's video or go to a game.

It's played on jumbotron. It's really kinda stupid but it worked.

I was at the game and thought it was awesome. I didnt think I would like it before I got there but I did. I do think It will get old quick because it was used on every 3rd down. Just like the article on Rockytoptalk says, I think it should be get used on a limited basis depending on the situation but not for every 3rd down. JMO

I've got to say I couldn't wait till third down! How long has it been since they where measuring how loud it was in Neyland . The crowd was a big factor and boost to the D.

Haha. If it gets the crowd/players fired up, then so be it. Just such a corny song. Most of the people my age that listen to that song are people I don't particularly care for.

When it was long into the fourth qt. when it was clear what the outcome was going to be, the crowd was still making noise a lot on third downs. The song has a way of energizing a crowd even near end of a blow out win. Even when the second stringers were in. I'd call that a successful addition. This is after all the whole point to the band playing, or cheerleaders cheering and mascots doing their thing. Its to keep the energy of the crowd up. So in that respect, despite how "corny" you may think it is it works. In fact the "corniness" is part of the appeal and its catchy and memorable.

Sure the die hard fans are always fired up. I certainly don't need a song to get me excited for football. But if it gets the casual fan, like my wife, (who loved it by the way) to stay in tuned with what is going on the field, making some noise, even when otherwise she wouldn't have, I'd say it served its purpose. The fact you seem aggravated by something that clearly works and helps the atmosphere by saying Neyland is fun again, suggest your comfortable with the status quo. I for one and ready for the "new." I'll embrace just about anything if it means making this team and this fan base better. Embrace the fun factor. :dance2::rock::pepper:

I took my kids to their first game last year at Neyland (USC) . The only time they put their hands over their ears was at the end. Last night they kept saying how loud it was....Kids don't lie...5 & 9 it was loud.

There was a little guy, maybe 8 or 9, and he was seriously getting into it! At one point he said, "I love this dad!". Awesomeness.

I'm not aggravated in the least bit. Like I said, if it gets the crowd/players fired up then I'm all for it. Just stating that I don't like the song. Since I'm not old enough to even really remember a UT team that's used to winning, I'm definitely all for the "new".

Go to your room. Go do your homework. It's past your bedtime. Quit making some of us feel ancient.

TV doesn't do justice to how it got the crowd into the game. Little did I realize the effect this would have on the crowd when Butch was explaining it at the open practice.

It was just loud in general already, I held out for a while but eventually was holding my fingers to my ears on 3rd down. It was awesome though, and it screwed up their on field play calling for sure.

:) I'm glad I was raised a Vol. If I didn't grow up watching the Vols, I would be like a lot of other people my age and be a UF/Bama/Vandy fan. I was 3 when we won the NC. I don't have any memory of us ever winning a championship.

Ok. I don't like the entire song either, so I get that, its not like I go around cranking it up everywhere. But that one little section of the song is fun and works for what its used for…and in the awesome moment of a UT game I put my oranges tinted classes on, go with it, and think "third down for WHAT!" is the best thing since Rocky Top…even though it probably a fad that'll fade. And is not even on the same level as Rocky Top...

That got me thinking when Rocky Top first came on the scene how many people didn't like it, did someone think it will just go away? Just a thought. Not trying to put "third down for WHAT!" on Rocky Tops level of greatness or anything...

I didn't like it. Tennessee doesn't need that to get loud.

you havent seen us play the last 7 years have you? I'd use anything I could get my hands on to get any kind of advantage I could... I'm sure Butch Jones GAF if you like it or not...

My 7 and 9 year old daughter thought it was the coolest thing. My 7 year old can jam to it. Have no idea where she gets it.

It's going to be a great new tradition for sure, I loved it and it definitely helped get the crowd going. Picked up steam throughout the game until very late.

sorry, i read your post incorrectly and gave it a like. thought you said Tennessee doesn't need to get that loud... like a smart-ass reply. i take it back and say be gone to you

I hate rap, but I thought this was a great way to energize the crowd. Everyone seemed to buy into it. Butch knows how to motivate, that's for sure.

Regardless of my taste in music, I was happy it was loud on 3rd down. The guy beside me though felt like he was in da club. I assumed he was dancing, although quite honestly, I thought he was having a seizure at first. The only upside was the young lady he brought with him who had something worth shaking.
