Love you. But I think we got our wires crossed, I meant get out of academia. There is no future in teaching other than existing.
Got my daughter out of teaching at the end of 2020, she’s got a damn good chance at landing a job starting close to 100k.
Have worked 3 12.5 hour days for 16 years. I’m accustomed to it. The caveat is I get to dictate my schedule.Bump.
Just saw an article online about this (Foxnews) and the comment section was freaking out.
I get the feeling people fall into 3 trains of thought on this:
1. 4 day work week = I work for 10 hour days - get paid for 40 hours per week
2. 4 day work week = I work 8 hour days - I work 32 hours per week but get paid for 40 hours a week (lol)
3. 4 day work week = I work 8 hours days - I get paid for working 32 hours only. 32 is now the new 40..
Lots of people think that if you are not in some admin role this 4 day work week can't happen. It can. 4 10 hour shifts. Its pretty easy. If you get an unpaid lunch break that turns into 10.5 hours a day (hard pass). Compressed schedules are the way to go if you ask me. Most folks will probably jump at work 4 10 hour days to have a 3 day weekend every week.
.5 = unpaid break correct?Have worked 3 12.5 hour days for 16 years. I’m accustomed to it. The caveat is I get to dictate my schedule.
Bump.

I started a 4 day work week a couple of years ago (4-10) and love it. It would be very hard to go back to a Monday through Friday. Now when I work Fridays I am getting compensated for it.Bump.

Restaurant, retail, grocery stores, hotels, transportation, law enforcement, hospitals, gas stations, manufacturing etc. You know places that are mostly open 7 days a week and are necessary not only for the economy but society as a whole. Can't think of any where this is the case.
I run two facilities open 24/7. 92 people. 4 day work week..Restaurant, retail, grocery stores, hotels, transportation, law enforcement, hospitals, gas stations, manufacturing etc. You know places that are mostly open 7 days a week and are necessary not only for the economy but society as a whole.
Especially when you talk about management at many of the places who are constantly putting in 50 plus hours a week.
Yeah but dont they get paid by the mile and not hour? Where I have worked we have 24/7 coverage and its all done on 4 ten hour days. If it can work for my scumbag employees it can work for anyone.
So you think you could get away with running two to three 24/7 Waffle Houses with a third of that total of employees on a 4 day work week? I'd say some locations probably have less than 15 employees. Managers included.I run two facilities open 24/7. 92 people. 4 day work week..
We also use "shifts"..
Bro..I've lost 32 people in a year. I hired 1...I can't hire as many as I want. And the 4 day work week obviously wouldnt apply to a small business. Its a simple model most places with 12 people or more can implement. You work for an employer that can hire however many employees it wants. Why would a small company that needs to provide services 5 days a week hire extra employees to cover that 1 day?
Look at you googling American restaurants and coming up with Waffle House! So you think you could get away with running two to three 24/7 Waffle Houses with a third of that total of employees on a 4 day work week? I'd say some locations probably have less than 15 employees. Managers included.
You have obviously never worked in many of the industries I mentioned above. No way a general manager or assistant manager at any of the local Dollar Generals going to be able to get away with scheduling themselves a 4 day work week. Many of them would be lucky just to get a day off.
Many manufacturing plants require 12 hour shifts now. Some will say a 4 day work week but also "encourage" people pick up extra shifts. Many are working 6 to 7 days right now.
Just because you have managed to do it with a rather large number of employees doesn't mean every industry will be able to do it. Especially with less employees.
4 day work weeks can work in certain industries but not many others.

I think for most people 4 days is pretty easy. I also feel that most folks clamoring for this don't realize its still 40 hours a week, not 32.
As a manager I actually would find 4 days a week a tough prospect since I can usually use Friday (my wide open day) to actually get non labor related work done and I sure AF am not doing work outside of my normal duty hours...unless there is a full ground stop issued by the FAA..
2 hour overlap. How do you cover a 24 hour work day with 10 hour shifts? Either you have a lot of overlap or 4 hours goes uncovered.
