7th in AP Poll

If Georgia and Michigan win and TCU and USC lose next week, will the Top 4 be 1) Georgia, 2) Michigan, 3) Ohio State, 4) Alabama ?

I think OSU gets in and maybe TCU stays. Would probably depend on how bad they got beat. A 2 loss usc would definitely be out.

And we would get the nod over all of those teams if we handled business in Carolina. Hell if you lose to Carolina but it’s close you’ve got an argument. There’s just no way though.

Yep, you can argue we should be ahead, but someone else can argue Alabama should. If we don’t lose to USC or probably if we don’t lose so awful to them there is no argument at all. Better to avoid the debate.

And we lost to an awful team by 20+ that dropped 60+ on us! When that happens it’s pretty much all that matters.
Bottom line: Tennessee has a win over Alabama. Has the same amount of losses as Alabama. The problem is that polls go by judgement/bias. If it went by W/L and tiebreakers like every other sport, Tennessee would be ahead of Alabama. If Tennessee and Alabama swapped resumes, they'd still put Alabama ahead of Tennessee.

Does it matter in a head to head debate? Seeding is usually based on records, head to head, points scored, run differential . Etc.

What terrible loss do they have? The common opponent factor doesn’t mean a thing when you lose to one of the worst teams in the conference by 20+.
They lost to the team that lost to one of the worst teams in the conference by 20+.

That ain't bad? Lol

Based on where I’m at since last Sunday, I feel pretty good about the season overall and where the Vols are ranked. A blowout/shutout of in state rival plus OSU/Clemson/LSU losses were good medicine.

Bottom line is Tennessee has a worse loss thus a worse resume to be in the playoffs. I’m not sure wtf is so hard to understand here. Do you legit think we’re a better team than Bama right now?

I think the bottom line is actually people value some factors over others. The way you look at it seems fair to me, but so does using our head to head win to give us the better rank. I can also think of a bunch of ways to determine a tie break that would be fair and reasonable ways to decide.

I’m not sure it works that way with a 4 team playoff. Head to head would matter with one loss for sure. A lot of other factors come into play with 2 losses.

If the game at Carolina was close then we deserve to be considered. Hooker being out also goes against us. Seriously I would love to make a case for Tennessee but I can’t say we’re one of the four best teams in college football with Hooker out and that loss on our resume.

I listed other factors, minus SOS, which we are ahead or close to Alabama. And, I am specifically talking about Alabama.

Looks like the committee decided which one was the fluke

Not really, teams that lose drop below teams that win - the polling process favors the teams that lose early and win late and those that lose late drop out. There are lots of examples of teams above other teams they beat because of that ... point in case USC is above Utah and Utah beat them. South Carolina is now ranked and above a lot of teams they lost to. Clemson is above SC and Notre Dame, both of which beat them.

It is more of where you start and when you lose than anything else.

No, but maybe 5th.. Definitely ahead of Alabama.

Sounds about right. I can see us moving to about 7 in the CFP poll. Obviously we aren’t in the playoffs, but we have a strong shot at finishing the season in the top 5 in the final poll.
