8-4

Going forward into next season with the 12 team playoff, 8-4 isn’t going to cut it here anymore not with the expectations at a place like UT and especially when you see what Ole Miss and Mizzou are doing. Unfortunately I can see 8-4 or 7-5 next season with Heupel retaining Willie and Tim and I don’t think Hazel is gonna get it done as OC. We really missed Golesh this season. The 12 team playoff is gonna change everything with college football gonna be like the NFL now. We need to set the expectations at 10-2 and not necessarily having to win the SEC because we could still get in the playoffs.
Sadly I agree with you. I hate Kiffin with a passion and I know certain posters on here don’t want to give him any credit but look what he just did. Look at what he is doing in the portal. It’s feasible to think ON could win the SEC next year. No that’s not a joke. Kiffin is up there with Heupel as the best offensive minds in football.

With the retention of Martinez and Banks says a lot imo. While I like continuity as much as the rest, it doesn’t mean squat if it doesn’t equate to wins. I fear our secondary will still be bad. I think offensively we will be better. I believe Halze was handcuffed because of Joes inadequacies. But if things don’t change significantly on the defensive side of the ball, Insont see us making the playoffs.

i think, especially with the smoke about evan stewart, that heupel may be looking at the 2022 recipe. try to have a defense that can hold the opponent to 50 points every game and an offense that can score 51 every game. Can it work? maybe, it has before. Will it work? maybe
It won't work long term. You can only outscore so many teams that way. Heupel knows you have to have a defense in the SEC. Georgia dialed in to what we were doing on offense and shut us down in 2022....and we didn't have much defense that day either. We have to have an excellent defense for the off years where we run into a situation we had this season where we were more limited in what we could do by our QB.

Yep, now the expectations and goals are totally different than ever before. We gotta win 10 or more games outta 12! 🤦😄

We may have a generational game changing QB in Nico but won’t do us much good if we don’t have a defense worth a crap.
OL has to perform better too. They are decent, but definitely need to be better if we are talking playoffs.

Cut it here anymore? That you think we should go 10-2 or better every year reveals how out of touch you are with reality. If we go 34-14 every four years, Heupel will go down as our best coach since 1965. I'm thinking that, bless your heart, you're deluded into thinking that your opinion is informed

Edit: If we go 34-14 every 4 years, we make the playoffs once every 4 years, minimum.

so the standard over a 4 year period is now an 8-4, 8-4, 9-3, 9-3 run? that wont go down for heupel as legendary, that will go down for him as unemployed. you dont have to be 11-1, 10-2 every single year, but you better be flirting with those numbers a lot more than you are 8-4

Mizzou didn't have a winning record under Dorkwintz before this year. While Mizzou had nice team this year, their record is the result of a super weak schedule. And they beat OSU's 3rd string freshman qb

It would be better than we've been historically.

And it would put us in the playoffs at least once every four years

Is it a for-sure that Martinez is staying? I haven’t seen a thing except a couple of questionable rumors that he is.

That’s still historically better than what the program has endured the last 10 years.

DW and Heupel have a close relationship. No way does his seat even come close to being hot if we win 8-9 games next year.

Lol we are not going 7-5 next year without massive injury issues at several key positions that would make the whole season a wash. We are going to be favored in 9 games easily, maybe even 10 depending how Oklahoma looks early.

Less than 3 years ago heupel took over a 3 win football team, who lost most of the talent remaining to the portal before he even got the job, and tomorrow is wrapping up year 3 going for his 20th win of the last two seasons. He has done a hell of a job so far and I assure you that he is more disappointed in 4 losses this year than you are.

Good post. Hitting the angles. Yep, your right, it is now 10 wins after they permitted Okie and Tex join. Really pole vaulted the demise of the Pac. But back to UT, we are tied with UK above SCar - Miss State and Vandy heading into '24. And are still below UF 'till a string of wins occurs. A lot of double talk this year. Especially after losses where "Overthrow Joe" didn't meet the media the entire week. Even if he had, this new bunch of media is pretty sad. Were in the top of the bottom 16 now. UT didn't just lose to UF, UA, Mizz and UGa, they got blown out. Now add in the 2 new members. Your right, they have to hit 10 W's every year now. 9's don't or won't get it. Nine wins is middle rung and should not be acceptable.

its cute that you think danny white makes the decisions over there over who gets fired when. when i see his name on the side of a building, i will believe that as well

I think some people are way underrating the difficulty of making the 12 team playoffs. Maybe 4 SEC teams at most make it some years, more like 3 usually. TN doesn’t look close to being in that top 3/4 anytime soon. Last season may have been the best chance to make a playoff for a while, and then South Carolina happened.

Yeah, Missouri's good but no way to know but I believe if the 1st team QB plays OSU wins and the best WR in the nation Marvin Harrison sat out, so like a lot of Bowl games now days the team that takes it more serious wins. Look at Ole Miss they had their grad assistant have a fake account throwing off & shade on Ole Miss players acting like a Penn fan and showed the players all the tweets and gottem fired up. It came out after the game Ole Miss coach faked the twitter or X account, Kiffen said it was just a fun joke.
