How many years back are we going? I don't think this amount is representative of anything short term. But possibly going back to the first afghan war when we got involved with forming terrorists groups to fight Russia

Where did this money come from? How was such a vast sum accumulated secretly.

For context; the entire (whole enchilada) federal budget in 2001 was smaller than this amount.

If you took 10% of the total defense spending around the time (will call that 5 billion) it would take 460 years to accumulate 2.3T.

It was those damn Native Americans I tell's ya!

EDIT - my bad, had a decimal problem - 50 billion annually = 46 years.

It all makes sense, Eisenhower WAS the military industrial complex

You're right on that. He was talking about years worth of transactions.

But I'll go back to the important question:

What would destroying that one section of the Pentagon accomplish in relation to these transactions?

@bama I understand it's transactions and not complete expenses. Do you realize the enormity of that amount though? A direct quote for Rumsfield saying they can not account for 2.3T in transactions.

The enormity of the amount; particularly in the context of the total military budget is a sufficient argument that is ludicrous to think he was actually saying this money was "missing" and conclude it was actually stolen and 9/11 was an attempt to hide the paper trail of the largest theft in the history of mankind that had been ongoing for decades.

It takes massive suspension of disbelief to conclude he was giving an actual number of money that had been "taken" from the Pentagon.

Yeah. It's massive and shocking. I'm not questioning any of that.

Can you please answer this question:

Regarding the accounting failures, what would destroying that section of the Pentagon accomplish?

The transponder sends back a code "squawk code", or altitude information to help air traffic controllers to identify the aircraft and to maintain separation between planes.

GPS is used for the plane primarily, air traffic control network is still almost entirely radar-based.
