9 spots left, how does the class finish up?

As far as LB's go: if we go to the 3-4 Jaq and can't think of his name (recent commit 3 star SDE from Florida?) look like they could make the move to LB. We have a solid nose in Montori and Carson looks to be built like a clog for the middle. Jackson and Corey Miller are both big ends. We may not need as many DT's however if we stay 4-3 then we definitely need some help! ha BTW whats up with John Brown? is he not making it in Jan? are we just done with him.

Sounds like the majority are in agreement with the following for the remaining eleven positions...

Offense:
  • OL/TE: 2 more (Richardson and Clear)
  • WR: 2 (Arnett and Dallas)

Defense
  • DT: 2 more
  • LB: 1 more
  • DB: 3 more (Loften and Dixon would fill two of the spots if both are eligible and accepted).

Some lists vary from this, but it appears to be close to the majority. The question then would be where would you put the last position, DE, DT, LB, DB or Running Back?

My initial thought is DE since I don't think UT is as secure in that position as some think. Walker and Williams graduate. Martin may not be back at 100%. And Jackson is not guaranteed to return.

However, I'm a bit torn with getting a larger DB that could also be a fast OLB. Someone like a Nevin McKenzie.

Where's he going?

Sorry, not saying Jackson is leaving. Just always leave that door open in case a Junior has a strong second half of the season and potentially improves his draft status (especially considering the circumstances surrounding his arrival at UT and his short time here).

At this point, I fully expect to see him on the field at UT in 2011.

My thought for the last position is just picking up the best guy on the board, regardless of position. If there are guys we like equally at different positions, I'd weight DL first, then LB, then free for all. Also, I'd like to have a 2nd extra guy in case we have one who doesn't qualify. There's always one, right?

You're expectations will be realized.

Janzen is a Sophomore...

Got to careful in filling up the class with low rated or not rated guys with avaiable spots, Here are some names from the past that were in this camp.... It make you wonder their level of contribution in the future. 4 are non factors and one (Brisco) had bad hands

Josh Brisco 3
Dorian Davis 3
Chase Nelson 3
Tyler Maples 2
Carson Anderson 2

Or more!

I agree with you that there should be some room left to pick up one or two highly rated players at the last minute.

It is really getting hard to pare the list down now.

I think it is looking like...

Tiny Richardson (OT)
Cameron Clear (TE)
V Dallas (WR)
Derek King (CB)
Blake Countess (CB)
Eddrick Loften (CB)(if he can get into school)
Chris Jones (safety)
Lamar Dawson (LB)
Gionni Paul (LB)
Terry Bell (DT)
Gabe Wright (DT)

Fallbacks
DeAnthony Arnett (WR)
Avery Walls (safety)
Tino Thomas (CB)
Kadetrix Marcus (safety)
Mickey Johnson (DT) -- good choice for an oversign, since he is likely a JUCO

Like I said, getting low on scholarships and having to cull our list.

GTFO Arnett is no "Fallback"

What are our chance with Rome at TE? That is a position of need and once Stocker goes to the NFL, we have no one that will be a force. Look at what Orson Charles did at UGA his first year.
