9 spots left, how does the class finish up?

If we only sign 1 DE, that means we'll only have 4 scholarship ends returning in 2012. Meaning freshmen will HAVE to play that year.

If 9 spots left:

1. OL-Richardson (4*)
2. DB-King (3*)
3. LB-Dunaway (3*)
4. LB-Lamar Dawson (4*) -in final 7
5. WR-Arnett
6. TE-Clear (4*)
7. DT-Mickey Johnson (4*)
8. DT-Gabrial Wright (4*)
9. CB-Eddrick Lofton

IMO, we wont take Dixon unless we strike out with all the other DBs. DYoung filled his role as a punt returner. This list is in no order but to me, the best possible out come with people who we are very much in it with.

I'd put Tino on the list. Not sure about Dawson. And I don't know about Wright either. All signs point to Aubbie. I'd almost like to see us get a JUCO guy but if Wright will go to work and come into camp in shape I'd love to have him. Too much time between now and Feb though.

Mickey is likely a JUCO guy in waiting.

You said it right there. All of this is nothing but speculation. But....

Dawson just said we are in his final 7. He is a top LB and someone who would make an impact either. I could see Tino on this list too.

It is really getting hard to pare the list down now.

I think it is looking like...

Tiny Richardson (OT)
Cameron Clear (TE)
V Dallas (WR)
Derek King (CB)
Blake Countess (CB)
Eddrick Loften (CB)(if he can get into school)
Chris Jones (safety)
Lamar Dawson (LB)
Gionni Paul (LB)
Terry Bell (DT)
Gabe Wright (DT)

Fallbacks
DeAnthony Arnett (WR)
Avery Walls (safety)
Tino Thomas (CB)
Kadetrix Marcus (safety)
Mickey Johnson (DT) -- good choice for an oversign, since he is likely a JUCO

Like I said, getting low on scholarships and having to cull our list.

1. Antonio Richardson (OT/DT)
2. Cameron Clear (OT, DL, TE)
3. Arnett (WR)
4. King (DB)
5. Countess (DB)
6. Eddrick Loften ( If he qualifies)
7. Gabe Wright (DT)
8. Mickey Johnson or Jarkarri Kinnie if Mickey doesn't make it
9. Travis Hughes (LB)
I don't think Dixon will be able to make it and if he doesn't make that's 10 spots left for us and I think the 10th spot will be,
10. Jairai Dunaway (LB)
Call me crazy but I think we can finish out with a class like that by NSD.

I think Richardson could have an early impact at DT, like some others have said. Would like to see at least 1 ready to play JUCO DT, but probably 2. Can't believe Jessie Williams went to Bama. I'm not going to play the early PT card, but? I really don't see Mickey Johnson making it in. Tennessee is at the point where we can't afford to take non-qualifiers without oversighning. I really would like for CDD to change the culture, to where the only guys we take that may not qualify are true game changers. Part of the reason we are in our current situation is because previous staffs took to many NQ's. Yeah, the class looks good in February, but a great deal of them don't show up in August. That is a bad class. I would rather take a group of 3 & 4 stars that can be coached for 4 or 5 years. That is what builds depth. Harbaugh has done this at Stanford (high level BCS football). Go Vols!

The VQ guys have talked about him being impressive, just a little small right now. He plays on all the special teams unlike alot of our LBs. I think the staff really likes him.

He's very very quick.

Hopefully he'll become a physical LB once the weight gets put on.

A lot of LBs like Crump need to be coached out of just running around blocks. He'll need to run through them and fight off of them.

Anyways, that's a small complaint that can be corrected.

What have you seen/heard to make you think this?

Two or three years ago, on every kickoff, the one name that you heard most of the time was Lamarcus Thompson. He turned into a pretty good LB. Since the first game of the season, the one name that you consistently hear making the tackle on kickoffs is Crump. Whether he follows in Thompson's footprints is yet to be seen, but it could happen.

Before that it was Nick Reviez and before him it was Ryan Karl.

Sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't.

Just my guess for the eleven spots remaining today...

Offense:
  • OL: Richardson and Clear
  • WR: Arnett and Dallas

Defense
  • DE: ?
  • DT: Johnson and one of Bell or JC (? - sounds like Crouch is very excited about his Miami offer).
  • LB: Paul/Dunaway
  • DB: Loften, King and one of Dixon, Thomas, Jones, etc. (I get lost).

If we aren't able to get another DE that we like (which seems likely given Tuitt to ND, Newberry to LSU, losing ground on Drew, etc.), I can see us taking two more LBs instead. Even if we only got 1 DE in this class, it'd be tough to complain if we landed 4 solid DTs and 4 solid LBs
