It sucks for DJ.

But he should have known better than to ground his club there. It may not have been clearly defined in the local rules and a shoddy design, but you can't take the chance on it.

it should have been in his mind. esp what happened to Appleby. but the pga did a piss poor job of implementing the local rules. you don't let people walk through bunkers. at st andrews there are bunkers in spectator areas, and they are all roped off. if you establish that all those areas are bunkers then you have to treat them as bunkers.

Did we just switch to the LPGA Championship?:)

But agree...probably wise.

Did Bubba just get a little dig on Kaymer for laying up in that interview?? Bout to rewind and listen again!

Unbelievable finish, and I'm not sorry that the German won, even though I may be in the minority.

One question that occurred to me in the bunker fiasco and what I thought were some questionable strategies in the playoff--do Johnson and Watson have professional caddies, or do they have friends and family on the bag?

There was absolutely no good reason for Bubba to go for the green on that shot. None. Had Kaymer been in the fairway, yes. That was just dumb.

It's really interesting that you bring that up... because there are definitely a lot of players, particularly the young ones who just have friends on their bag. and i definitely think that in most cases its ill-advised

"Not one thing. Ah, you know, I made a bad swing. You can't get mad at bad swings. Ah, on the playoff right there, I hit 6 iron trying to catch a flier. And it never left the flagstick. I was, I was breathing hard thought it was going to be real tight. Came up short. Ah, if I had to do over I would do it again. I play to win, not to lay up and play for second."

Second thought, I dont think it was a dig at all.

A little research shows that Johnson's caddie, Bobby Brown, was a long timer at Pebble before going on tour. Watson I think still has Ted Scott, who caddied for Azinger, but the only info I found was a bit dated.

Sort of blows up my theory, though.

There are several young players on tour just using friends as caddies.

Exactly . . . I hate if for the guy, but what could he have possibly been thinking. Who in their right mind that plays competitive golf ever grounds their club in a pre-shot routine in anything that resembles a bunker??

I doubt it was a dig. But Bubba had the advantage (better lie) - Kaymer simply played smarter golf. Laying up or not. He won. That's all that matters.

you thought that resembled a bunker?? because spectators normally stand in the bunkers?
