a bad rule

so you mean make it more enjoyable for you? glad you have such a clear definition of enhanced.

I'd prefer explosions when a sack occurs - that would really enhance it for me.

So The Whiners Want The Game To Be Easy. In That Case, Let's Just Stop Recovering Fumbles Altogether.

Or......

Pig Could Just Use His Head And Not Lose Control Of The Damn Ball.

Apparently some of you have never played the game. Once fumbled, the ball is live just like a kickoff. Offense does not get to keep the ball at the point of a fumble, otherwise you would never lose a fumble. It is either recovered by one team or retained by the offense if it goes out of bounds in the field of play. The end zone is not in the field of play A live ball fumbled through the side or rear of the end zone is a touchback. It would have been UT ball if he fumbled out of bounds before he reached the goal line but it left his control before he got there.

Exactly, a bad rule.

Yeah Because Likes Have Been Around Forever...

Oh Wait, They Haven't.... Get Your Facts Right Before You Attempt To Be A Jerk.

SC-Vols point also shows that a fumble has the same rules as a kickoff - live in the field of play; live for either team within the endzone but to the opponent at the 20 if out of bounds in the endzone.

Thanks for another explanation of the rule, it still doesn't make it a good one.

Because it hasent caused enough public outrage for anyone to bother.

My question: answer my original question.

But you won't, because you have no good answer and will continue avoiding it.

SC-Vol has a good explanation. I added to it with the kickoff example and have repeatedly discussed the difference between field of play and goal plane

I guarantee there is public outrage (from the losing team) every time the rule is invoked yet they've still never decided to give in to the whining.

Rule: a runner cannot advance a fumble

There. I took care of a back purposely fumbling forward to gain yardage.

Its a bad rule. If you fumble out of the end zone you should receive the ball exactly where it was lost

:loco: You're insane. It never ceases to amaze me that people will jump on here and whine and complain about rules that have been in place for decades. He fumbled the ball through the end zone. That's the breaks. He's not the first player to do it, and he won't be the last player to do it either.

And the fumbling team can't recover it until it goes 10 yards. Herp derp

So by the flawed OP line of reasoning, if he fumbles at the 10 and the ball rolls for 19 yards and goes out deep on the side of the end zone 1 yard short of the back line of the end zone, the offense gets to keep the ball?

I think not.

Deal with it.

You're insane. You take rules for granted just because they have existed for a long time.

field of play and long existing rule -- try again.

why can the kickoff team recover in the endzone but not if it goes out of the endzone?

why is it at spot when it goes OB before endzone but touchback if after it crosses plane

both sound like dumb rules to me...

...but it's Vol fans whining now. Vol whiners are special. Every time we lose a game there is a group of Vol fans that believe that we should start rewriting the rule book.

You cannot ADVANCE a fumble. Fumbling backwards results in a loss at any location.

Sick ice burn though bro you totally got me

Are you sure that if Pig fumbled into the endzone and another Vol recovered it wouldn't be a TD. I'm pretty sure (not 100%) that it would be.

It is the out of the endzone part that is the touchback - someone else on offense (with the possible exception of fourth down) recovering would be a TD.

I think your right. Regardless of the fact that its been a rule for decades, you honestly agree with it.? I just think it makes perfect sense that if the ball is fumbled and not recovered before it goes out of bounds, the offense should retain possession where the ball was fumbled from.

Why are kickoffs considered live balls and why must they travel 10 yards? Assinine if you ask me!
