A Possible Solution Presents Itself.

If, as becomes increasingly obvious, Pearl is suspended for at least a season and has to ultimately be terminated, the perfect coach to handle his absence/departure became available today. Larry Brown. How do you sell it to him? Simple. You tell him that Pearl is only being kept around out of loyalty and to ensure he is employable when his suspension ends. I raise that issure because if UT immediately fires him, there could be questions as to whether his suspension can be served while he's unemployed. That lets Brown, who has 3 or 4 good years left, settle in with the knowledge he's an interim coach in name only. It also gives you an extended window in which to seek out the long term answer. It's a win for everyone. Brown gets a big check without dealing with NBA egos, Pearl gets the issues resulting from his ethical lapse behind him, and UT keeps its basketball train on the tracks.

Get outta here :lolabove: That's beyond hilarious

The thing about this whole situation is if CBP is going to be fired it can only be done by the university. The NCAA does not have the authority to fire any coach. They can place sanctions on the team and university that make it really hard to keep him as the head coach. Based on what the university has done so far I do not see them firing him after the sanctions are handed down.

Yeah, Pearl came clean because he had a change of heart. It had nothing to do with his inability to convince the recruits to lie to the NCAA.

You and your hatophiles are the only ones who have said that Pearl tried to get recruits to lie. Have you read
the NCAA official report about what actually happened or
are you just spewing more hatred.

What if its shown that he did? Will you continue to support his retention?

Has UTIE listed his top names to replace BP, yet? I've got my "permalink" button ready for when he does.....and don't want to miss it.

UT basketball won't and shouldn't be taken seriously by anyone worth a damn if Pearl is retained under such a scenario.

Whatever, hater.

Who cares what other coaches, the media, recruits (and their families), the league office, the public at large, or the 'AA and the Tourney Selection Committee think of our basketball program?

Some believe that BP is bigger than the program, itself.

Because they're stupid.

So you are pretty sure it has been made public. Here again we have thoughts and conjecture.

You're playing semantics. Just because the official report hasn't been made public yet, or someone isn't willing to give up their source of information doesn't mean it isn't true.

Make a list of who said what, and once the report is made public, villify them accordingly.

I'll say this - Hat's being overly cautious in the things he has alleged to this point, from what many, many others have said privately. You may disagree with his points or tone, but he isn't one to just invent things out of thin air.

If the time comes to look for coach. Some ideas:
Mike Anderson
Andy Kennedy
Steve Alford
Eric Musselman

Thanks.

What criteria did you use for each individual coach - meaning, what lead you to believe that this guy would make a great hire at Tennessee to replace BP? Recruiting? High-character? X's and O's?

Now, once you've identified the core characteristics which drew you to each of these - compare it to what LB could bring to the table.

Give it an honest assessment, and tell us what you came up with.

Oh, and you forgot to answer the first question - what if the 'AA report says that BP attempted to solicit the help of others in covering up his lies? Would that alter your support for his retention?

Mike Anderson would be by far my #1 pick. I believe he finished 2nd behind Pearl the first go around. He would bring an entergetic play like Pearl to the Vols.

If Pearl is fired at season's end, Gregg Marshall should be the first choice.

Just my two cents.

Thanks.

I have no strong feelings for BP personally. Bottom line is he wins games. He has taken UT basketball from a joke to achievements never seen in Knoxville. If he were fired right now I wouldn't care. But if LB were hired to replace him i think it would be a bad hire.

I'm not breaking down potential replacements. You asked for a list and I gave it.

LB is the coaching equivalent of Obi Won Kenobi. He was great but now he's wandering in the coaching desert.

Yea. I'd much rather have Andy Kennedy than an NBA Hall of Famer. Good point.

Spoken like a true hatophile.

Which part, specifically?

I thought it was pretty balanced, and will be most happy to defend it - if you'd like to attempt to poke some holes in it.

Please begin.

Or, would you prefer to shoot your mouth off and run? That'll definitely save me some time, and likely, you some embarassment.

Mike Anderson YES
Andy Kennedy NO
Steve Alford NO
Eric Musselman I must admit I had to look this name up. At least he has coached in the pros.

What has Andy Kennedy proven at Ole Miss other than that his team is sometimes competitive?

You're getting too predictable. I knew this was going to the be the argument - winning at Milwaukee is bush league to the feat LB accomplished at UCLA and KU.

The difference, as you know is the talent level. Winning with KU talent playing for Milwaukee would be easy. Winning with Milwaukee talent in their league is comparable to winning with UCLA or KU talent in the Pac10/Big 8.

Yes. You got it, I think.
