About those goal posts... [donation link]

I read UT is accepting contributions to cover the 100k fine levied by the corrupt SEC front office. Does anyone have the legit link?

This thread is a glowing declaration as to why Knoxville and East Tennessee north of Chattanooga has largely been a pit of suck.

It seems like more than anything someone thought “Hey, this might be a good idea for a fundraising opportunity for the university. Here’s a fun idea I had.” And the rest of UT’s board/brass thought it to be a good idea or good potential opportunity for such.

I can’t comment on the cost of two goalposts. So I don’t know how high or low that number might be.

I presume things like transport, installation, and some other aspects would factor into the final number (like sometimes in some stadiums it’s installed into a mechanism that automatically lowers it after most games) but I can’t claim to know how much that would account for.
I think this is great humorous fundraising that encourages fan buy-in literally.

Also two 16ft long steel C Channels manufactured and installed cost about 18-20,000 recently, so two goal posts installed very probably is 150000

I tried the link that was shared earlier and it acted like you had to sign in with some email. I am not alumni or employee I clicked as friend. Do you have to have a UTK email to donate?

This was a total misfire by Danny White, a rare one. Can't believe they actually put this out.

For those of you that haven’t been following along, it took months for them to get the image of Butch Jones removed from the Jumbotron after Pruitt was hired. We’ve paid how many coaches buyout money now? Our athletic dept. doesn’t have the cash in the bank like many others do in our conference. The SEC TV money has kept us afloat through these years. Put a few winning seasons together and we can stack our reserve funds back up, but we are far from a wealthy program as far as stashed cash goes.

I know some fans are saying that it’s a “misfire” to ask for donations, but just look at how much spread that tweet got. What’s the saying…no such thing as bad press? I guarantee you that Tweet raised a **** load of money. White is a master fundraiser, and I guarantee he wouldn’t send that out unless he figured it would be worth it. Probably too good of a moment to pass up for cultivating new donors riding a high.

It’s a joke.

It’s to get more donations with a play on the goalposts. Y’all are special.

I really don't understand why people aren't getting this. It's like the Tony Vitello chest bump fundraiser (infinitely smaller scale but same idea) -- capitalizing on current events for a fundraising opportunity. Organizations do it all the time.

It's a flat joke, IMHO. But folks are different, so glad you liked it!

The Vitello fundraiser was comedy gold, because it was clever and obviously a lampoon.

This? Perhaps they needed to go even bigger with the drama of it, but the way they presented it was just....flat.
