About to hit the fan at UNC...basketball and football academic fraud.

I am. I grew up in Durham ( 5mins from Duke's Campus) from lower school until I went to UT. I came back bc of a girl, and well here I am. I grew up a Duke fan, my parents are Iron Duke's and I have been to more Duke/UNC games in Cameron/Smith Center than I have total in TBA. In all honesty, I have great respect for UNC Bball and the rivalry that Duke shares w/ Carolina. I've never been a part of anything like it. For those who disagree, imagine UT vs. Bama or Fla 8 miles apart. I just think that UNC Football is a joke, it always has been convenient for the fans and not something they really take seriously.

I'm glad to hear that (in all honesty). You are a legitimate Duke fan. I often say there's no lower breed of North Carolinian than a Duke fan who either didn't go to Duke or was brought up and raised a way's off from Durham and the Duke campus. Hey, our tax dollars don't support that university, so my fandom goes towards the team I have a part-time ownership in. Seriously, though, I totally respect you being a Duke fan since you grew up in the Durham area. That makes sense. As for me, I spent the first 22 years of my life in North Carolina, growing up a Tarheel fan. I have been attending UT for the last 5 years, working on my advanced degree. And I will agree with you about UNC football. Quite frankly, any school in NC that claims to take football seriously is fooling you. They don't. That's why all the big-time recruits in the state end up Florida Gators. haha!

Congratulations on your winning record this past 12 years or so! I guess those are the only dates that matter in college basketball history. You still are far from owning the all-time series. Anyhow, I'm not here to attack the Kentucky program. I just saw my school being attacked here and felt like firing some shots back. I just get so tired of some people (not necessarily accusing anyone in particular on this forum) of acting like Kentucky is the indisputable standard of college basketball. When you look at things without any context, yeah, they are. But when you throw in specifics, like conference play over time, tournament rules before the so-called "modern-era" (which kept good teams from going to the NCAA tournament to compete against schools like UCLA and Kentucky), etc., it becomes a little bit more fuzzy. I completely agree with you though: both programs are without a doubt to be envied. I don't necessarily dispute anyone's claim for Kentucky's preeminence; I just think there are legitimate arguments against it at the same time. But apples and oranges: it's stupid to argue the point at the end of the day. Everyone is set in their opinions, and it's a relatively pointless issue anyhow.

what are you trying to say?

we have one. It's called the NBA.

Wow, boom.

Of course, I'm talking about current players playing with and against former players, during the offseason, live in front of the UK fans in Lexington - all of which the NBA does not offer.

So, like I said, I'm surprised UK doesn't have its own version of the Rocky Top League.

Unless times have changed over the past 10 years or so, former UK players return every summer and play pickup with current players. Why not organize that into a league, fill out the rosters with other area ballers, and invite the public?

If you ever put players in the real NBA I'd be surprised to see them come back and participate in the gas league, but it could happen.

We had alot of players on campus last summer playing pick up and such due to the lockout, but with our situation I just don't see it.

Cj Watson, Tobias Harris Allan Houston??? Aren't those guys that where/are in the league that have/are coming back to play in the RTL?

Heck even if your players that where in the league didn't come back, it could still be a good league. Incomin freshman can play, so you'd have all those guys. Plus current players, so that's a few more. It's a good chance for everyone to see these guys up close and interact with them on a level most don't get to.

Used to do that with the barnstorming tour...come play at gyms in small towns...has there been a barnstorming tour since Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford?? Maybe so and I've just missed it being in TN.

I'm so old, I remember seeing Phillips, Givens, Lee, and Robey doing their barnstorming tour. Good times.

It sounds like the Kentucky fan thinks that since it was Tennessee that came up with the idea, it must not be good enough for them.

Every time I am at an RTL game, and a line of young fans forms around a player, be it past or present, I think about how odd it is that Tennessee seems to be the only one holding a league like this.

Even if 0 of UK's current NBA players came back, and I don't think that would be the case, it would be hugely popular. If they held a league this summer with the returning players, the incoming freshmen, some players from other area colleges like EKU and Morehead State, and whoever else they needed to pick up to fill up the rosters, they would fill up any high school gym, no problem. Throw in a few former players who didn't make the NBA, and it gets even bigger.

Enough of that, though, let them go on thinking it's beneath them to play pickup in front of fans in lieu of playing pickup privately.

Well, Lebron, K Durant and several others did come to lexington for several pick up games during the summer. It was public, if you count ball boys.

Look I'm all for the UNC bashing, but I have to admit it's hard to knock on there academic admissions. I realize what's going on w/ this scandal, but UNC is probably a top 5-10 public university from an admissions standpoint. I just threw up a little bit.

Actually, one of my best friends got wait listed at Carolina and got into Vandy first try.

That is exactly what happened to me...
