ACC imploding???

If the beloved ACC implodes, which two schools would you most likely like to see join the SEC?

From what I've been reading, none of them actually want to leave. Not yet, anyway. The ones making all the unhappy noises (primarily FSU and Clemson, but including to a lesser extent UNC, NC State, Va Tech, UVA, and Miami) are making those noises in their argument to break the even-shares agreement. They want to be paid more if they bring in more. They want the conference's lions to have a lion's share.

In other words, they want to stay in the conference. And get paid more for it.

That's far different than trying to get out.

Indeed, it is most likely that if this play works out to the bigger programs' favor, it will be the little guys who start looking for a new home 12 years from now, when they can. The Pitts and Syracuses and Dukes.

But another thing all the experts seem to agree on: folks have been looking for a loophole in the ACC contract for the past 12 years, and haven't found one yet. They're unlikely to in the next 12, either.
The revenue sharing thing is a band aid . They tried it in the Big 12 and you see where their big dogs are now. It may not happen next year or maybe in 2 or 3, but there is zero chance that these ACC schools will stay with the status quo while watching Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky and border schools like Tennessee bring in $50 million + more per year . There’s no way that happens.

No, to Virginia.

91 sugar bowl half time. Look it up.

They don’t carry any weight in football and not much in basketball.

Grab NC if you must as they bring BB.

GA Tech left because of cheap shots by Bama. Google Chick Graning for any questions about this.

Florida State as I don’t think we can hold Bowden against them turning down the invitation in 92.

From a football standpoint only FSU and Clemson add any clout.

Basketball would be NC and Duke, but we don’t need Duke or Wake.

I know that I’m rambling here, but from a football only stance there are only two to add without getting a safe space U or Vandy feel about them.

Va. Tech and Miami. Both schools have good all-around athletic programs ie...basketball, baseball, both men's and women's.

In the DC region, there are more Va Tech fans, despite UVa being much closer.
Isn't 'delusional' what you look for in SEC fans???
Delusional as in the history of there program they think they are better than tennessee, well use to haven’t heard as much the last few years think they all went back into hiding…

All of this consolidation is bad for football. Sorry, but a conference with Texas and Clemson isn’t a conference. It’s a franchise agreement.
We’ve just gotten rid of divisions. Now you pretty much have to go back to divisions or pods, at least the B1G and Big 12 do.

I agree. I think if NCS could get out from under UNC/ Duke and had exclusivity to the SEC brand in a state like NC we might see a much different NCSU.
I don’t know how quickly they would change, but landing guys like Nathan Leacock, who literally went to high school right down the street from State would’ve been a lot more difficult. That’s why I don’t want teams like FSU or Clemson to join the conference. Why would we want them to have the same level of conference prestige as us? That’s our big recruiting chip to play against these ACC schools. When you come to Tennessee you play against the best in front 100K each week and you have a better chance to reach the League. Or you could go and play in front of 5K at BC on Friday night in October when everyone is watching the Red Sox instead?

UNC or a Virginia school in my opinion would hurt tennessee the most as historically Tennessee has been its strongest when we recruit well in the mid-Atlantic region. Maybe NIL makes geography less important but a school in North Carolina or Virginia joining the sec makes a kid living there and wanting to play in the best conference less incentivized to chose Tennessee.

I'd rather the SEC not take anyone. It's not good for college football to be so diluted. 16 teams is enough. In fact we should be giving other conferences some teams.

Miami does not care one bit about The U.
They bring absolutely nothing to the SEC.

Large TV market............. yep. Watching reruns of "The Golden Girls" and "Soap"
Hard Pass
How can you lump Soap in with the Golden Girls category? Those are dramatically different shows.

Matchlock and Murder She Wrote are in the same group as GG but not Soap.

Duke and UNC would be huge for basketball. Clemson and FSU would be great for football.

I get that... And you get that. But they bring a bigger TV market than Mizzou did.
