Uh pretty sure he got shot and died.
The media glorifies mass shootings by fixating on the "who" and the "why." How about this. Don't say their name. Don't show their face. Focus solely on the victims. Take away their celebrity and watch it disappear.

I did not hear that. I just know when I worked as an armed guard (usually we were just contracted for a few months when a disgruntled ex worker had made threats) That I was hyper alert for my shifts, but then again, I knew somebody out there was pissed off and had threatened to hurt people.
Im sorry, if my links to articles from cbs are going to get dismissed on here, Im not going to give much weight to Firearm Owners United.
Im certain that brietbart and drudge also have very fascinating reviews on the subject.
This was one of the more civil discussions I have seen on gun control. Good thread.
I am so conflicted on the issue. My dad was a State Trooper. I grew up around guns. He taught me to shoot when I was 8. I got a Beretta 9mm as a HS graduation gift.
I have a decent little arsenal of my own, but the only thing in danger from me is paper targets. Hell, I dont even like to hunt. Im not really into killing stuff.
I am familiar enough with guns that the tag of assault rifle doesnt really scare me. You can do a LOT of damage with a standard pump shotgun. Are we going to ban those too? I cant begin to imagine how many are already out in the world.
Im sorry, but there are a lot of crazy people out there and I do not want to be the least armed dude in my house. Ever.
That said, I do not pack in my day to day life. I went to a burger place the other day and saw an older gentleman eating lunch with his wife who had a pistol strapped to his hip. Would that freak a lot of people out? They seemed nice.
This all day long. Gun control doesnt work. Look at Australia. It failed. You stop mass shooters by having a trained armed resistance.
Like you, I grew up around, and with guns. Started on a .22 bolt-action rifle when I was "watch-pocket tall". Then the military, then law enforcement. Guns have been a part of my life since I was maybe 6 years old, so...(sigh)...49 years.
Politically, I am Independent, but yes, the Republicans have held my vote for a while now, absent a valid Independent candidate. In truth, I am a Christian Constitutional Conservative (snowflakes have been known to faint just by walking past me...), in that order.
Edit: Just as an example of my independence on this issue, I am dead-set AGAINST allowing civilian ownership of suppressors, and I would outlaw bump stocks tomorrow. Neither one, IMO, has any valid application in hunting, sport shooting, or personal defense.
While I am a firm supporter of the 2nd Amendment (and the rest of them as well), I am in agreement with a comment I heard that the Founding Fathers had no way to foresee what is happening now. I'll avoid the debate on what their original intent was, but I will say that I am a firm supporter and defender of Responsible Gun Ownership. And I think it can be achieved, although it is going to take years, if not decades...absent a nationwide gun grab...to see the effects.
In the meantime, we need to make schools, churches, airports, malls, stadiums, and any high-density area a hard target to the best of our ability. And there's only one way to do that. We have the way. Do we have the will.
JMO, and I'm wrong a lot.
May the Good Lord give comfort and peace to the families of all those who have been affected by gun violence, or come to think of it, any violence of any nature.

Here is the first problem: "Under federal law, you also must be 21 to buy a handgun from a firearms dealer. But 18-year-olds can buy semiautomatic rifles."
What idiot determined hand guns required more responsibility?
Second problem: NICS the system that checks to see if someone is eligible to buy a firearm is extremely flawed. It pretty much only looks for criminal history when it should be looking for criminal history and mental health issues. It doesn't look for people who have attempted suicide, are a potential danger to themselves or others, have serious underlying mental disorders. Unfortunately now because of HIPAA laws that information may likely never be shared with the NICS.
It's a lot easier to hide a handgun than a rifle.
That's truly a pointless argument. Share that info with the 17 families who are now missing a loved one and see if it helps. If the same laws applied to rifles as they do to hand guns this might not have happened. He wouldn't have been able to legally purchase it as he would have been 18/19.

to partaaayyyyEvery one of these lunatics puts us one step closer to tyranny. I know I got a smart aleck response from little lord pj earlier, but sometimes, all it takes is one more pebble to start a landslide, it will not not be today, but sooner or later it will. Total disarmament is the ultimate agenda for left wingers and their mouthpiece media. It will get really ugly one day when they finally get their way and force through the legislation to overturn the Second Amendment. I hope it doesn't come to that...It will get bad, people will fight for that right.
