Every one of these lunatics puts us one step closer to tyranny. I know I got a smart aleck response from little lord pj earlier, but sometimes, all it takes is one more pebble to start a landslide, it will not not be today, but sooner or later it will. Total disarmament is the ultimate agenda for left wingers and their mouthpiece media. It will get really ugly one day when they finally get their way and force through the legislation to overturn the Second Amendment. I hope it doesn't come to that...It will get bad, people will fight for that right.
I’ve got a family member that’s relatively high up in the CIA, and he told me years ago that Americans should be disarmed. Take it for what it’s worth, but I think that is the goal of many in our gorvernment, and they are waiting for the public to cave in to drastic legislation.

I know that. It will get ugly, many more people will die from the violence that will ensue when they start to take peoples guns, than from a few lunatics doing what they do. I'm all for common sense gun control, but not disarmament, and gun control is not the agenda, it is disarmament. A lot of people poo-poo this and call it paranoia. The gubmint will call the regular people they kill "criminals". It will get very very ugly.

I share your concerns, but IMO it will never get to that point. For starters, the Supreme Court is charged with interpreting, and defending, the Constitution of the United States. Right now, it's likely a 5-4 court at worst on that issue. Odds are that President Trump will get to nominate at least one more Justice. We'll see how that plays out, but I just don't see a repeal of the 2nd Amendment.

And even the most liberal of the liberals realize that any "gun grab" would go over like a turd in the punch bowl, so I don't lose much sleep over that. But another version of the Brady Bill might be on the horizon. Of course, I have learned that you can never count on the government to do the right thing if another option is available, so we'll see.

We will see, but I hope common sense prevails. The things I worry about are obviously way down the road, but it is the road it's heading down now IMO.

I really don’t understand how people honestly thing gun control will solve these issues. Criminals can get guns at ease. Making laws more strict or disarming the citizens altogether does no good for those that get guns illegally anyway

There won't be any federal gun ban in the US on a mass scale ever.

When you get the border under control, all of the terrorist groups under control and stop the mass immigration of violent middle easterners into the country call me. We could then begin talks about eliminating guns. All I see this week is the governments inability to protect us from anything. I want the school massacres stopped now, next week, not ridiculous political postering. If the government can not protect us turn it over to each school district to get the job done.

I don’t necessarily think all guns should be banned. However nobody needs automatic rifles, and crazy people or people with bad history shouldn’t be able to legally purchase them. I think the solution is to start setting up metal defectors everywhere. Schools, malls, amusement parks, EVERYWHERE it’s sad that even has to be considered but something has got to give

Do you know anyone with an automatic rifle? Do you know where to buy one?

Be careful, all you get are the posters who want to jump on technicalities instead of discussing the issue. A guy who should have never had a firearm just gunned down a bunch of children in their classrooms. Because of people like him my preschooler has to do active shooter drills to find out how/where to hide in case it happens at his school. Anyone still arguing "but muh gunz" at this point is a moron. It's obvious to anyone that the status quo is not working

Everyone here recognizes the problem. You obviously have a personal, and emotional interest in a solution. Good.

What would you suggest as a short-term, and long-term approach? The guns are already out there, so it's going to take a two-pronged approach at the very least.

How about we get people with mental health issues the proper care they need? Or maybe when our government agencies get a credible tip they actually do their jobs and investigate that tip? I know that sounds crazy and we should just ban guns.

We're not talking about taking the guns away at this point. Keeping new ones out of the hands of unstable people should be the immediate goal. Law enforcement should do their job and follow up on these reports. This would also require some level of communication that doesn't exist yet but could if anyone really cared. Then they need to solidify the schools. This is national defense and should be treated as such. Doors with strong locks, metal detectors, guards, etc. There's enough pork in the defense budget to get that constitutionally mandated action done many times over

Yes! Let's do all that. Why are we not?

And where did I ever suggest banning guns?

It doesn't have to even be the govt agency following up. Hand it off to the locals and have them do real police work instead of running another speed trap

.. and when I went to grade school, we had drills to get under the desk in event of a Russian bombing attack, and we lived under fear of a nuclear weapon hitting us.

No nuke ever hit and your drills were useless. There are lots of kids in the ground because they were shot in their schools. Try again

wrong. National defense is mandated and the money is there. These are attacks on the children of the US.

Stop the stupid strawmen and discuss the issue

It makes too much sense. That’s why.

1) Has your preschooler been shot yet, or are the drills useless so far? Insurance is useless most of the time, too. Do you have any?

2) There is waste in all of government. Since you picked defense, it helps me understand your priorities as a liberal.

yes, children are being shot in schools in this country or are you not paying attention?

National defense is mandated. This is a national defense issue. My priority is fewer children dying in their school classroom with gunshot wounds. What's yours?

Applying labels makes it so easy doesn't it? No need to actually discuss anything if you just assign the other person to the opposing team and decide they're wrong. Go back to the PF if you think that passes for a debate
