After Hart botches this coaching hire

Point is when you have a month of luxury to find a coach and you end with a Al Golden that's not success. Al Golden is the bottom of the list type of coach IMO. He's a guy that you settle for when 10 other guys refuse to come here. Gruden may not want to come here, but please don't tell me Al Gordon is a great coaching prospect. I could see a Charlie Strong or a Larry Fedora. What I can't see is having the luxury of time and money at your disposal, and settling for a Al Gordon type hire. You want to hire someone who's never won anything special as a head coach hire Jack Del Rio. Least he has NFL experience that could draw recruits here, and he's a bright defensive mind.

Have we ended with Al Golden?

Most of the teams that have the better coach has games to play. Another week or two for the right hire is reasonable.

Hart doesn't want Gruden he's done all but said it. He's going after Jimbo Fisher so get ready cause that's who's up next. Oh yeah most of the boosters hate DH by the way.

I can tell you've done your homework on coaches since you don't even know "Al Gordon's" last name.

Not my point. My point is he shouldn't even be in consideration unless Hart knows we can't get the top coaches like Patterson, Kelly, etc. Even then Larry Fedora would be a better hire then Al Golden. I wouldn't consider either top notch coaches at the moment, but I do think Larry Fedora is a rising star as a coach.

Again, hopefully Hart has been working on this since the Miss St loss. Something important to remember is the recruiting "dead period" starts Dec. 16th. The longer it takes the less time the new coach has to contact recruits for this years signing class!

Well you don't hire the wrong coach to save 1 recruiting class. Dooley saved his first class and you see what that got us.

Golden is a very good coach, and I hope he doesn't get the job here so next year you all of you bashing him can see that when he returns 20 of 22 starters. Having said that, Golden will not be hired over Fedora or Strong.

Just reported by Steven Hargis from Chatt. Free Times Press that the Gruden hire would have been done if Hart and UT would have met his demands for assistant coaches (salaries)

Gruden would have been announced as coach yesterday if UT had agreed to his demands for assistant coaches salaries.

And what would've happened had those salary requests been on par with other head coaching salaries at other schools?

UT doesn't have "unlimited funds" like some of you want to believe. "Open the checkbook" is probably one of the most naive things I've ever heard.

This fanbase, by en large, has set itself up for major disappointment with the "Gruden or Bust" mentality.

Hart didn't want Gruden because the grude would be uncontrollable and probably demanded too much power.

I have no basis for this opinion. :)

If you can, tune into 1180 AM in Knoxville , Tony Bassillio has a reporter discussing this as we speak. Guy says he is 100% certain Gruden wanted to be UT coach but Hart and UT would not meet his demand for assistant coaching salaries. Like I said, Hart is a bozo and should be fired if he does not get this worked out!

He's a reach for UT IMO. Let him prove his worth then hire him. I just want someone who has proven they can win on a contestant basis. Golden's best record was 9-4 at Temple. I'd say we'd be a 8-4 team consistently under him. Miami has recruited by 247 stats the 29th and currently 67th classes i the nation the past two seasons. I wouldn't say in a state loaded with talent that's great results if I'm Golden. Don't bring up the excuse that Miami has been on probation because it hasn't hurt USC's recruiting. We are out recruiting Miami by a long shot with two losing seasons and a total loser for a coach in Dooley...

Can we please get rid of him and Jimmy Cheek and hire Phil Fulmer as our AD so we can actually get serious about football once again?

They have already cut $6M in academic scholarships to fund this new coaching hire. I would say that is pretty serious.

I wonder if that means Gruden wanted to pay his brother NFL money to be the OC? If so, maybe it's time to move on to plan B.

Lets hope this is speculation and not facts because if this info came out with true facts to back it up I'd hate to have Hart's job. Money talks and if you want to win you have to pay coaches or settle for mediocrity like we have the last 3 seasons under Dooley.
